Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter
Friday, May 7, 2021
Message from the Principal:
Teacher Appreciation Week was a wonderful time to pause, reflect and celebrate Woodbury educators. Of the many ways in which they were honored, I particularly enjoyed the student-voted teacher superlatives; you can see some of these awards in the pictures below.
Third marking period Honor Roll and Principal Lists are included in this week's newsletter. Please take a look at the lists and help us celebrate these outstanding students!
Also, we wish to celebrate the top five seniors of the Class of 2021. The sustained effort it takes to reach these lofty academic heights is quite impressive; parents you should be so proud!
In partnership,
Dr. Vivadelli

Next Generation Science Standards
Shout out to Mr. Kosior and Ms. Thomulka for being accepted into a pilot program for OpenSciEd. This Next Generation Science Standards' aligned curriculum provides professional development, high-quality science materials, and empowers science teachers to use their expertise and creativity in the implementation of the materials. This is a game-changer for our students by exposing them to more STEM related fields and possibilities. Kudos, Jesse and Jessica!
Shout Out to Mrs. DiRienzo
We would like to shout out the hard work and dedication of Mrs. DiRienzo, who goes above and beyond each month to create a display of some sort, be it a bulletin board or simply posting on the lockers throughout the hallways, that celebrates diversity in correspondence with the established national monthly themes. Her efforts give students a visual representation as well as an opportunity learn about differences others may have, as well as relate to information shared. We all know that the biggest path to tolerance, acceptance, and understanding is knowledge. Please click the link below to look at a few samples of her display this month in honor of mental health awareness, “which aims to raise awareness and educate the public about mental illnesses and reduce the stigma that surrounds mental illnesses.”
Following up with Mr. Robert Richardson, one of our sixth grade math teachers, who was chosen by the Philadelphia Phillies as one of ten honorable mention teachers. The Phillies celebrated the area educators during the 21st Annual Teacher Appreciation Night on Monday, May 3.
It was a close game but the Phillies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3.
News from the Nurse's Office
Student health screenings are currently in progress by our school nurse, Mrs. Dreger. If your child is fully remote, and you wish for him/her to be screened this school year, please call or email our nurse to set up an appointment. Available time slots are Monday – Friday 1-3 pm. The nurse checks height, weight, and blood pressure; screenings are done for hearing, vision, and scoliosis (depending on age/grade of child). Mrs. Dreger can be reached at 856-853-0123 ext. 250 and/or kdreger@woodburysch.com
In addition, if you have received a vision referral letter in the mail, and taking your child to see an eye specialist would be a financial hardship, please contact Mrs. Dreger. There are coupons available for a free eye exam/free pair of glasses, and one of the participating providers is right here in Woodbury – Friedberg Eye Associates! In order to qualify for the coupon, the child cannot have any vision insurance/coverage. Your child’s vision health is very important If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse.
