2.2.24 Family Message
Greetings Gearity Families
Student Success Plans Have Been Developed: The teachers spent Monday reviewing data and developing plans to support all of our students in demonstrating grade level proficiency by the end of the school year. Teachers will be working with students in small groups and individually to build their skills. Feel free to reach out to your student's teachers to find out how you can support this work at home. We will have Parent Teacher Conferences on March 21st and 22nd where you can get an update on your student's progress.
Black History and Women's History Month Projects: Gearity students have been participating in College and Career Readiness guidance lessons taught by Mrs. Higham during the months of January and February. As part of the lessons, we are asking students to identify STEM careers they are interested in pursuing when they get older. The students will research an African-American and/or Female role model who has made a major contribution in their STEM field. Students will identify how their role model trained for their career, developed job experience, and the impact they have had on their STEM Field. Once done, they will create a goal for making their own history in their STEM area and a plan to achieve that goal. Students will present what they have learned to their classmates on March 8th and the top three presentations at each grade level will participate in a STEM Career Fair on March 13th.
School Market on Thursday: Please let your friends and neighbors know that we will be hosting our school market on Thursday. The community is welcome to participate. Students will be given fresh produce to take home. The community can pick up food donations from the back of the school from 2-4 pm. In the past year we have distributed 33,812 pounds of food equaling 28,176 meals to 9,324 people including 989 seniors.
Elementary Drop Off Reminder: Please make sure that you use the back door to drop off elementary students. The front turn around is for buses to drop off and the front lot is for the preschool families to use when bringing their children to the preschool program. Thanks for helping to make our arrival process safe and efficient.
Family Dance Tonight: Get your dance shoes on! Mr. Sullivan has set up the dance party lights and the play lists are set. There is no cost to attend the dance since this is a community building event. We plan to have "walking tacos" and pizza available for a modest fee. We are looking for volunteers to help with making the walking tacos. All money raised by the food sales helps support PTA programming at the school such as classroom mini grants and social events.
Have a great weekend,
Patrick McNichols
Principal
