Math
Mrs. Close's Class - The kids took the Module 5 assessment today. We'll begin Module 6 on Monday. That unit focuses on decimals! We'll also begin to weave in NYS test prep materials.
ELA
PAWS - Assignments #10 and #11 were returned today in Friday Folders. At this point in the year, I am really going to push the kids to work to their highest potential.
Colonial America - This past week the kids accessed a google slide show through Schoology on Colonial jobs. They were required to take notes on the job description, tools needed, and interesting facts about the trade. I am planning to finish up that unit during the coming week. The kids will take an assessment on Thursday. This isn't a test that they need to memorize facts. It will be more based on ELA skills with social studies based texts.
Picture Book Friday - We had two guest readers this week! Kellen read to the class earlier this week and Piper read to us today. Jack C. is scheduled for next week Friday!
Science
We finished the magnetism and electricity unit this week. Electromagnets were the last piece. The kids worked in pairs to build their own and also watched footage from amusement parks that highlighted the use of electromagnets in roller coasters and other rides like the Slingshot. The most important unit vocabulary has been inputted into Quizlet. Students can access that app through BravesLink on the school's homepage. The end of unit test will be given on Tuesday. It will be a mix of fill in the blank, true/false, multiple choice, and short answer.
Music Updates
Kids will need to bring their instruments on Tuesday for lessons and Thursday for ensembles. Chorus will rehearse on Wednesday.
