Special Career Development Event : Exploring The Link Between Majors and Career
On Monday, March 20th at 9:30 AM, juniors and seniors are invited to join Will Sealy, Assistant Director of Recruitment at UW-River Falls, as he highlights the link between majors and careers, explores the various considerations when planning for college, and discusses how to maintain success in college and beyond. See below for a full list of topics:
Career/Major Exploration: Highlighting the link between majors and careers.
College Planning: Exploration of the various considerations when planning for college (Major, support, financial aid, campus visits, etc.)
Importance of College Visits: Discussion on the importance of visiting colleges and what to expect on a campus tour.
Maintaining Success in College/Life: Learn how important “soft” skills are developed in the classroom and how they impact success in academic and beyond.
Following the presentation, you are welcome to join Will for an overview of UW-River Falls. This part of the presentation will focus specifically on the academic and social opportunities on the UW-River Falls campus. This portion of the presentation will begin at 10:25 AM.

In-School PreACT and ACT - Tuesday, April 4th
EVHS Juniors have the opportunity to take the ACT on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Testing begins promptly at 7:45 AM and is expected to end at 11:30 AM.
EVHS Sophomores have the opportunity to take the PreACT on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. The PreACT is a practice ACT exam. The PreACT will begin at 7:45 AM and is expected to end at 11:30 AM.
There is no fee or sign-up required for these exams. There is no makeup test date offered.
What should students bring to the ACT and PreACT?
- Acceptable photo ID
No. 2 pencils
- An ACT approved graphing calculator
What should students NOT bring?
- Testing regulations do not allow these items in the testing room and need to be stored elsewhere during the test. Students are encouraged to leave all unnecessary personal items at home on this day.
- Cell phones or iPads
- Any electronic devices that record or make noise
What can students do to prepare before the day of the test?
- Plan to be in school that day. Do not plan appointments or vacations for this date.
- Use their Naviance student account to access Naviance ACT Test Prep for free. Click on Resources to Get Ready from the Naviance homepage. Timed practice tests are available for students there.
- Visit the ACT free practice site located here.
What can students do to prepare for the day of the test?
· Get a full night’s rest and have breakfast (Students will receive the option for lunch after the test and be able to request a lunch in their Advisory class).
· Arrive early, in advance of the test start time.
· Test proctors will not permit students who arrive late into the testing room.

Normandale Community College: Financial Aid Completion Night -Thursday, March 23rd
Normandale Community College is hosting a Financial Aid Completion event on Thursday, March 23rd from 5-7pm. This event is a community event and is open to all students regardless if they are planning to attend Normandale in the fall. Students and families are encouraged to sign up for a specific time slot as space is limited. You can access the available times by scanning the QR code on the flyer.

EVHS College Planning Night For Junior Parents - Presentation Slides and Handouts
Junior Parents: If you were unable to attend the Spring College Planning Night last Thursday evening, you can view the presentation HERE.

Healing Touch Massage Apprentice Program
In Dec of 2021 the MN Dept of Labor approved Healing Touch Massage Apprentice program - the first and only massage apprentice program in MN. It's a 2 year program and the apprentices who finish are eligible to sit for the Mblex exam to get licensed as a Massage Therapist. It's a great way to train to be a Licensed Massage Therapist without incurring any debt - and being paid to learn! City of Eagan- Summer Jobs
The city of Eagan is hiring for summer jobs from forestry and maintenance positions to lifeguards and pool attendances to camp leaders; there are a variety of jobs for all interests and availability. Many positions start hiring at 15. It’s a great first job and an awesome way to work with friends and spend time outdoors making a difference in the community this summer.

Registration is now open for Minnesota Business Venture this summer! BestPrep’s
Minnesota Business Venture (MBV) is a weeklong intensive for students in grades 9-12. Students work together in teams, hear from inspiring speakers, gain leadership experience, and explore career paths – all while learning how to create and present a business plan.
In 2023, MBV is offering two overnight sessions:
July 9-14 or July 22-27 at the University of St. Thomas.
Students can apply online. The deadline is April 21 for our early-bird enrollment fee of $200. We offer numerous scholarships for those needing financial assistance!

MN Tuition-Free Pathways for Students in High-Need Career Areas
Minnesota Future Together Grants will provide eligible Minnesotans with a tuition-free pathway for earning a certificate, diploma, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree at any public institution in the state. The grants are available starting spring 2022 through 2024.
If you are currently studying healthcare, STEM, business, industry and technology, education, or public service at a public institution, reach out to your college's financial aid office. And if you're a prospective student looking to go into one of these fields, chat with an admissions representative about the opportunity.

Woodland Elementary Scholarship Opportunity
Woodland Elementary School again will be awarding a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior who had attended Woodland Elementary School. This award is not limited to college-bound students only, but can be used for any post-secondary training and/or education at an accredited institution.

In 2022, the Society of Women Engineers awarded more than 330 new and renewed scholarships valued at more than $1,700,000. SWE Scholarships support those who identify as a woman and are pursuing an ABET-accredited associate, bachelor, or graduate degree in engineering, engineering technology, and computer science both in the United States and internationally.
ABET Program Freshmen: Applications for the 2023-2024 academic year are open February 1, 2023 and close on March 20, 2023. Reference letters due by March 27, 2023.

Newly updated, this list of summer enrichment programs offered at Minnesota Private Colleges can be a helpful resource for families and students looking for options.
The 2023 College Prep Scholars Program Application is Now Open!
If you are a high-achieving high school junior from a low-income background, the College Prep Scholars Program can equip you with the knowledge, confidence, and resources to propel yourself forward when applying to top colleges. As a College Prep Scholar, you will learn how to develop a strong college application that shares your unique story. You will receive the support and preparation you need to get in to top colleges and possibly attend for free through the National College Match.
WHO SHOULD APPLY? The College Prep Scholars Program is open to high school juniors who demonstrate:
- Academic Achievement: Earn primarily A’s in the most challenging courses available and display intellectual curiosity and strong writing ability.
- Financial Need: Come from households earning less than $65,000 annually (for a typical household of four), with minimal assets.
- Strength in Character: Have resilience, integrity, and motivation to succeed.
The deadline is Wednesday, March 22.
*QuestBridge is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that connects high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds with leading institutions of higher education and additional opportunities through unique programs.

Grief and Loss - Supporting Families in Dakota County
Losing someone that you love or care deeply about is very painful. You might have a lot of emotions and it may feel like the pain and sadness you’re experiencing will never go away. These are normal reactions to a loss.
While there is no right or wrong way to cope with losing someone, there are healthy ways that, in
time, can renew you and help you move forward. These resources can help you work through your grief. It’s a sign of strength, not weakness, to seek help.

Park Nicollet's Growing Through Grief Support Group
Park Nicollet’s Growing Through Grief counselor, Jenny Simmonds, will be offering a weekly grief group for Eastview students who have experienced the death of a significant family member (parent, sibling, caregiver, etc.). If your teen is living with loss and you think they could benefit from participating in a grief group, please contact Molly Wellik at molly.wellik@district196.org and we will connect with your student regarding their interest.
School Supplies Available for EVHS Students in Need
If your student needs supplies, please send them to the Counseling Office. We have supplies including notebooks, pens, pencils, padlocks for gym lockers, pocket folders, graphing paper, index notecards and more. We also have new backpacks!
