What is 143K Rising?

The Pennsylvania Coalition of Public Charter Schools (PCPCS) formed 143K Rising as a way for lawmakers in Harrisburg to hear directly from charter school families. We are guided and supported by a diverse group of educational organizations, business groups, and public policy agencies that understand charter schools are the best option for many children to receive a public education that meets their needs. The goal is to give charter school families a voice in policy decisions that otherwise could have disastrous consequences for the education and future of their children.

Northwood parents and guardians, it is recommended to sign up here. You will receive email updates from the 143K Rising movement on the latest efforts to protect public education options. You also will have the opportunity to contact your state lawmakers and let them know you support public charter schools.

Countdown to Spring Recess!

Don't forget Spring Recess is from Monday, March 29th to Monday, April 5th! We will see you all virtually on Tuesday, April 6th. Wishing everyone a SAFE and enjoyable time off.

WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH at the National Constitution Center

“How Women Won the Vote” features some of the many women who transformed constitutional history—including Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul, and Ida B. Wells—and will allow visitors to better understand the long fight for women’s suffrage. With nearly 100 original artifacts—including a ballot box used to collect women’s votes in the late 1800s, a letter from jail written by a White House picketer—explore the historical context of the fight for the right to vote over 70 years.

The museum is open Fridays–Sundays from 10 am–3 pm, and advance reservations are required. If you can’t make it to the museum, you can view highlights of the exhibit online, or even book a live virtual tour of the exhibit via Zoom. Additional resources can be found on the Constitution Center’s Women’s History Month landing page, including videos, educational materials, and more.

Tracking COVID-19 in Pennsylvania / Philadelphia

We are thrilled to announce that we are prepared to shift to hybrid in-person learning on Monday, April 19th. As you know, this hybrid model will accommodate students in both remote and in-person settings.

We have worked in collaboration with many vendors, and internally as a team, to upgrade our facilities to orchestrate a hybrid model that is safe and responsive. This decision was made after considering all current recommendations and data from the CDC, the PA Department of Health (DOH), the Philadelphia DOH, sector trends, and Northwood’s safety initiatives. Please recognize our original plan to shift to a hybrid model following three consecutive weeks of low to moderate transmission levels was eased when official agency recommendations shifted. This change is a result of school transmission data, mitigation and testing programs, and staff vaccination access.

Please be advised, the choice to send your child in-person was optional and ALL hybrid and virtual cohorts have been finalized, based on the results from our Parent Survey from February 3rd. We will not be adding any students to our in-person cohorts at this time. In the event that the local or state directives prohibit this model, we will inform you accordingly. If we know anything, it is that things change quickly during a pandemic.

Remember to use the Bulldog Blast, our social media channels, the Remind App, and the Northwood Academy website as resources for all updates and information. This Thursday, March 25th, we will be sending further information regarding schedules and general expectations, and hosting a virtual Town Hall for all families on Thursday, April 8th to answer any additional questions. Click here to read our full COVID-19 statement from our CEO, Amy Hollister. Thank you!

Free Meals Pickup 🍽️🥪🥣

We are continuing to give out frozen meals that last up to a month in the freezer, so extra meals can be stocked and saved for the weekends or a much later date! Pickup for multiple meals traditionally takes place at our cafeteria (Adams Ave. entrance) on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

We hope families continue to take advantage of this cost-saving and nutritional convenience.
