SOUTH LEBANON ELEMENTARY
5th Avenue Falcons May/June 2021
NOTES AND NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
We have officially entered the 4th marking period and PSSA's are complete! I would like to thank all of our students and families for making sure that students came to school ready to learn. It was so nice to see our students from grades 3-5 return to school for the PSSA's that have been participating in our virtual program.
Even though the pandemic has put a damper on many of our traditional events this year, the next month in the life of our school is going to be jam packed with activities! We will be welcoming parents of our orchestra students into our school for the first time this year to see their children perform in their spring orchestra concert. Additionally, our 5th grade students will be participating in a district wide field day at the middle school. This will be held at the end of the month; and for the first time in years, a field day for all grades will be held right here at South Lebanon. Other events in our school include a virtual chorus concert that Mr. Small has been recording.
As we wrap up the school year, we are starting to turn our attention to next year. There is still uncertainty about what our year will look like next year, but we are hopeful that we will be able to return to normal in 21-22. With this in mind, our preliminary planning is being done as if it will be a traditional school year without the current restrictions. You may recall from our parent/student handbook, parents are able to unrequest 1 teacher. Typically our cutoff date for these "unrequests" are April 15th. I am extending the window until Friday, May 7, 2021. Please note that there may be rare circumstances where we are unable to honor these unrequests, but we will make every effort to honor them when possible. We do not allow and will not honor requests for a specific teacher.

More details to come!
SPRING CHORUS CONCERT
The South Lebanon Spring Chorus Concert will be presented virtually due to protocols. Please be on the look-out for a Skyward email that will go out on Monday, May 10th containing the link. While there are many other parts of the music department that are able to do an “adjusted” live concert, the Cornwall, Ebenezer, South Lebanon, and Union Canal elementary chorus programs are not able to present theirs while staying within the protocol limitations.
We have looked at every possible scenario and, due to our adjusted schedule (no actual chorus rehearsal time) and other issues unique to our elementary chorus programs, we have to present virtually.
We thank you for your continued support and look forward to getting back to normal as soon as possible!
CLSD NATIONAL MUSIC RECOGNITION
The Cornwall-Lebanon School District has been recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants as one of the country’s Best Communities for Music Education! This is the 6th consecutive year we have been honored with this designation from The NAMM Foundation. This national recognition would not be possible without the dedication to music education from teachers, administrators, parents, and community members throughout the school district. Congratulations, Cornwall-Lebanon School District Community!
NEWS FROM THE NURSE'S OFFICE
State Mandate Dentals and Physicals:
There are still quite a few students missing dentals and physicals from this school year. Please get them to me ASAP so that we can close out the year with all records complete.
Next year’s (2021-22) third grade parents, please send in your child’s green dental form requesting either a private or school dental exam for next year. For those of you who have the exams completed over the summer, feel free to mail them to the school during the Summer break.
Next year’s (2021-22) sixth grade parents, please send in your child’s pink Health History form ASAP so they can be processed in time for the transfer of Health Records to the Middle School. The Health History form needs to be completed by a parent/guardian even if you choose to have a school physical done. For those of you who have the physical completed over the break, you may mail them in to the Middle School nurse (Mrs. Nicole North) over the Summer.
Please remember medication permission forms and medical care plans must be completed each school year.
According to our district policy, MEDICATION CAN NOT BE TRANSPORTED TO OR FROM SCHOOL BY A STUDENT. THEREFORE, ALL MEDICATIONS MUST BE PICKED UP BY AN ADULT. If your child has medication in the nurse’s office, please pick up prior to the last day of school (June 17, 2021). If you are unable to pick up medication prior to school ending, medication can be picked up in the main office by June 10, 2021. Any medication remaining in the nurse’s office after June 17, 2021 will be discarded.
