Boosterthon is Coming!!

Parents! This year’s main fundraiser is the Bear Creek Fun Run! It’s a 9-day program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on September 29. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on October 12. With our big goal of raising $20,000 for Water Bottle water fountains, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easier, and fun.

Students will also experience an amazing character theme, CASTLE QUEST! an English castle theme all about being brave and living with character. On their quest to regain Bravemore Castle, students will learn the “SIX VIRTUES of a TRUE HERO” from a cast of colorful characters.

Donations will go toward Water Bottle water fountains and to the entire 9-day experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!

"Leaders at Home" at Home Project

Your child is very excited to be able to interview you about your important job as a Leader at Home. We are learning about Leaders at School, Home and Community. Last week, the first graders interviewed our Leaders at School, Mr. Calvert and Dr. Stevens. And this week it is You! They are asked to video the interview with their iPad. It is fine to have a 3rd party video the entire interview to include both of you. The students brought home a paper copy of the project on Friday.

This project is due by Wednesday, Sept 20.

Enjoy this time with your child as you share your job as a Leader at Home.

iPads at Home

1st Grade iPad Information

Dear Parents ~

GCISD has new iPads issued to each student in grades K-4 for the 2017/18 school year. iPads are used within the classroom daily for a variety of activities, some of which are: Math and Reading monthly assessments, independent Reading, Math Practice, creations for Science and Social Studies, and many other projects that occur within district curriculum.

District and school expectations are that each student takes their iPad home daily, returns it to school fully charged each day, and follows the iPad “trust rules” which they discuss and sign in their classrooms (a copy will be sent home). HELPFUL TIP: Keep chargers in backpack to be used at home and school. iPads should be used at home by the student to access Reading apps and Math practice or to share completed work on their iPads with their parents. The “app store” is no longer available to download random apps onto the iPad. The district only has specific apps available to students that have been approved by the district.

It is the responsibility of the student and parent to make sure the iPad is stored in a safe, secure place. IT MUST BE CHARGED DAILY and RETURNED TO SCHOOL EACH DAY. We will be using the iPad Daily in class. The assigned student should be the only user of the iPad at home.

Thank you for your help and support. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher with questions.
