FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Ross Rocket Advocacy Teams
We want every child to have an adult advocate at Jerry Ross. That is why we reinstated our Ross Rocket Advocacy Teams this week. Forty staff members serve as mentors for multi-grade level student teams. Each team has approximately three 3rd graders, three 4th graders and three 5th graders and will meet once a month. This week our focus was on getting to know each other and building community.
Each month we will have an objective to focus on from our S.P.A.C.E. theme, but our primary purpose for advocacy teams is for every child to have a champion, another supportive adult to connect with and trust.
Attendance and Tardy Letters
We have not sent attendance letters since 2020 because of Covid-19 illnesses and quarantines. While there are still legitimate reasons for absences, regular school attendance is in the best interest of our students. Notifying parents of excessive absences is a district-wide attendance policy. You are always encouraged to reach out to us if there is something preventing your child from attending school.
Congratulations to our 5th grade cross country runners
Jerry Ross had the most student participants and won most of the top 10 spots for boys and girls. We are proud of our children's willingness to try something new and represent their school.
College and Career Readiness Week September 26-30
Students and staff are encouraged to wear college or career gear next week in recognition of College and Career Readiness Week. We will have daily facts shared on morning announcements and highlighting many different careers throughout the week.
Thank you and have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Linsley
Semester Grades for all Crown Point Students
Elementary schools will join our middle and high schools in reporting grades at the end of each semester. Previously, elementary report cards were finalized each nine weeks. We are shifting to reporting at the end of each semester so that students have a longer time to demonstrate what they know and can do. Our focus is on mastery learning and supporting a growth mindset in our learners.
On Tuesday, October 11th, students and parents will be able to view in-progress grades in RDS.
- This ‘in-progress snapshot’ is an update of where students currently stand at the end of the first 9 weeks.
- Report card comments will not be made on the 9 weeks snapshot.
- Grades from specials (art, music, PE) will not be reported until the end of the semester.
After viewing the in-progress snapshot, there will still be plenty of time to ask for help if needed, complete work, and bring grades up before the end of the semester when grades are finalized.
Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher should you have any questions about their progress or to learn more about how you can partner with us to support your child’s academic development.
We look forward to welcoming you to Parent Teacher Conferences in late October. During Parent Teacher Conferences, we encourage a collaborative dialogue that highlights how your student is transitioning throughout the first semester. We look forward to addressing questions parents/caregivers have, sharing relevant information (engagement, strengths, NWEA, classwork, socialization, areas for growth), and establishing on-going means for communication.
Online Survey
Dear Crown Point Community School Corporation Families,
We thank you for being valued partners as we work together to educate our students.
While many people often think of student success in relation to grades or test scores, it is also important to consider the social and emotional growth of our students. Starting September 19th-Sept 26th , we will ask students in grades 3-12 for their feedback via a 20-30 minute online survey completed at school. The survey will ask students to reflect on their self-efficacy, emotional regulation, social awareness, and supportive relationships. The results from the survey support our ability to address individual and school-identified needs.
We have previously administered this survey as part of our Ready To Learn student services work. The data was used to implement positive behavior interventions and improve school culture and climate. We look forward to using new data from this school year to identify and align services for students.
If you have any questions about the survey or do not want your child to participate, please contact your school’s main office before September 19th. Students who opt out of the survey will still be able to participate in programs or services created as a result of the data.
Sincerely,
CPCSC Office of Curriculum and Instruction

FROM THE NURSE
On October 7th a presentation on Growth & Development is set for the 5th grade class. The Health Educator for the Lake County Health Department will present information on puberty as these changes are a normal part of life. Please look for a permission slip and information to come home with your child this week.
September is childhood obesity month.
It’s important to offer your children healthy eating habits and a healthy lifestyle. These choices made at a young age can make for a future of good health.
Please check in with your child to see if he/she is sick before sending to school. Here is the website to help monitor your child sickness to stay home.
