A message from Mrs. Griger

Hello, NEU Field Club Families!

Happy New Year! We officially began the second semester of the school year this week. Our NEU family is off to a strong start. Students and staff are getting back in the swing of things and our school buzzing with learning.

As the "season of inclement weather" is here, we will be sure to send iPads home nightly. Please be sure to send the iPad back to school each day, fully charged.

With us being in the midst of the cold weather, it is important to have students dress for the weather. If the real feel temperature is above 20 degrees, students will be going outside for recess. Recess periods last 15 minutes and may be shortened if necessary. When the conditions are unsafe outside (ice, heavy snow, or temperatures below 20 degrees) indoor recess will be held.

If your child is in need of a winter coat, hat, gloves or a scarf, please reach out to Cari Kenney. She can assist with gathering the outdoor gear.

Daily Schedule:
8:50 AM - School begins.
Please come to school every day on time.

8:30 AM – 9:00 AM Grab and Go Breakfast (Free for all students)

4:05 PM - Student dismissal

Please have routines in place so your student is at school on time. Attendance counts!

All students are accountable for completing and submitting all assignments every day.

Please call the office by 9:00 AM
if you know your student is ill.

Be sure to bring in doctor and dentist notes when students miss class.

As always, reach out with any questions or concerns. The staff at Field Club appreciate your support and partnership!

With NEU Pride,

Mrs. Griger

Dear Omaha Public Schools Community,

As Nebraska’s largest school district, we are stronger because of our 9,000 staff members. Our team arrives each day ready to serve the students of Omaha. We can all be proud of our focus on health and safety, academics and the well-being of students and staff. Still, we know this year’s normal looks nothing like what we’ve known before.

We’ve all seen news about shortages and disruptions affecting businesses across our country. We know those impacts can be seen and felt in Omaha and in our school district. Our Operations and Human Resources teams have been relentlessly focused on planning ahead, strategically staying ahead of disruptions and creatively recruiting the best candidates to work with our young people.

We’re writing to ask for your assistance – in lending your talent to our district. We need you. If you have five, 10, 15 or 20 hours a week we want you join our concierge team. This team is paid and stands ready to assist with numerous non-instructional responsibilities. As a team member you have the opportunity support many schools as needed or maintain a relationship with one school in your neighborhood. The role could include any of the following:

• Lunch Time Partner: Overseeing and providing support to students during the lunchtime hour.

• Classroom Partner: Assisting the teacher with necessary tasks in the classroom.

• Bus Aide Partner: Assisting our transportation staff by supporting our students.

• School Pride Partner: Assisting the school leadership team with special projects that foster pride and student success.

If you are interested in the opportunity to be part of this team, please click on the link below to learn more and apply. Thank you for your support. Because of you, our district has been a local and national leader throughout these challenging times. With you, we know that will continue.

With gratitude,

Cheryl Logan, Ed.D.

Attendance - Every Minute Counts!

The Omaha Public Schools strongly believes that daily attendance is critical to academic achievement as well as social and emotional well-being. We expect every student to attend school and classes on time and every day.

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to call their child's school (School Secretary and/or Attendance Secretary) as soon as they are aware their child will be absent.

See OPS Attendance Policy 5008: Click here

If your child has an appointment, please be sure to get a note from the Dr. and bring it to the school secretary's so it can be documented. Also, if the appointment is in the morning, please bring your student back for the remainder of the day...every minute counts! See the chart below.

If you need assistance with attendance issues, please contact your child's building administrator, School Support Liaison, School Counselor or School Social Worker.

In accordance to the Nebraska State Statute 79-209, click here, the Omaha Public Schools District has in place an attendance policy that supports the encouragement of daily attendance while providing supports and resources to students and families.

Big picture

COVID Daily Screenings

Dear Omaha Public Schools Families,

Entering the second semester of this school year, health and safety remain our priority. As we communicated in December, face coverings will be required for students, staff and visitors in our schools.

In 2021, Omaha Public Schools worked with the Douglas County Health Department to host 147 vaccine clinics across our district community. More clinics are scheduled in the weeks to come. We encourage all eligible individuals to be vaccinated against COVID-19, including those who are due for a booster dose. A complete list of upcoming Douglas County Health Department clinics is available by clicking here.

Our district is working with school and program leaders to ensure as many supports as possible are ready to maintain in-person learning through the time to come. If conditions require an individual classroom or school to temporarily adjust routines, as some classrooms and schools did in late fall 2020, our district will communicate as proactively as possible with impacted staff and families.

Omaha Public Schools continues to align our isolation practices with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Douglas County Health Department (DCHD) guidance. Contact tracers working alongside Health Services and school staff help us prioritize responsible, in-person learning for the students we serve.

Updated COVID-19 Positive Isolation Guidance

Stay home for five days
If your student has no symptoms or symptoms are clearing after five days, your student may return to school
Continue to wear a face covering around others for five additional days (currently required in all district schools and offices)
Any student who tests positive for COVID-19 or who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (see below) should not report to school.

COVID-19 Symptoms

Two or more of the following: fever of 100.4 or greater, chills, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue
At least one of the following: new cough, new onset of shortness of breath, new loss of taste/smell

If your student is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please contact your healthcare provider or visit the Douglas County Health Department website to schedule a COVID-19 test. Our district is working to ready additional testing resources and will share additional information if, and as, that becomes available.

If your student has had a close contact/exposure and is symptom-free, they may return to school and self-monitor for the development of symptoms for ten days.

If your student is going to be absent due to a positive COVID-19 test result or is experiencing symptoms, please immediately notify the school.

Thank you for your partnership in promoting the health and safety of our students, staff and families.

Important NEU Field Club Notes & News

Face Coverings

Health and safety is our priority. To protect students, staff and families, our district updated face covering requirements for the start of the 2021-22 school year. Students, staff and visitors must wear a face covering while inside our school. We care about our students, and we can work together to limit the spread of COVID-19. Our school will have face coverings available for those who need them.

Building Security

For the safety and security of our students and this building, we are asking that any parent visitor make an appointment prior to entering the building. We will continue to limit outside visitors due to Health & Safety Protocols.

School Messenger

We will be using the School Messenger (email or Robo call) to communicate this year. Please make sure to contact the office if you need to update your contact information.

Infinite Campus Parent Portal Accounts

Did you know the fastest way to keep your child's information current and to check on current grades (for grades 3-5) is to have a Campus Parent Portal account? Call the office to get your code and set this up today!

School Lunches

Effective for School Year 2021-22, Omaha Public Schools will serve meals at no charge to enrolled students. We encourage families to complete a meal application for Free or Reduced-price school meals. This information may be valuable for P-EBT, the carryover of meal benefits for school year 2022-23, and other educational benefits. The 2021-22 meal application is available online at and a copy was in your child's back to school folder.A completed application is not required for enrolled students to receive meals at no cost for SY2021-22.

If there are any questions, please contact the Nutrition Services Office at 531-299-0230.
