Developing Expert Learners
Universal Design for Learning Module 5
Growth Mindset is an approach to teaching that consists of the belief that intelligence is not fixed, but can be developed through effort and persistence, particularly in challenging situations.
Universal Design for Learning by design, not only presumes competence but nurtures the competence and aptitude. UDL encourages us to look at all learners, regardless of their readiness for learning as learners with promise. UDL enables us to put aside our assumptions about our students, perhaps because of the way they respond to learning and explore the spectrum of their talent. Above all, UDL makes the curriculum accessible to ALL students and supports the least dangerous assumption – that exposing students to learning is not harmful; but keeping them from it is.
