Running Titans-Franklin County Inv.
The Collins cross country team traveled to the Kentucky Horse Park on Sept. 14th to compete in the Franklin County Invitational. The girls’ team scored one of their best team times in the last three years by clocking 1:56:51 or an average of 23:22 per runner. Seventh grader Emma Kendall was the first Titan across the finish line clocking a fast 21:02 (29th place) in her first varsity 5K race. She was followed by Lilly Vest in 48th. Sophomore Audrey Bucknam, eighth grader Laura Vidourek, and junior Shelby Huelsman rounded out the scoring for Collins. This strong performance placed the girls 17th out of 37 teams.
The boys finished with 418 points to grab 16th place out of 44 teams. They were only beaten by two, 2-A teams. The Titans had two top 50 finishes with senior Nolan Thomas in 36th and sophomore Gabe Vergara in 46th. Vergara ran 17:47 taking nine seconds off of his previous PR. Freshman James Solinger (18:17) and sophomore Cole Martens (19:04) also got PRs. Senior Jeremy Yocum rounded out the Titan scoring. This gave the Titans the fastest team time they have gotten in the last three years.
Head Coach George Sanderlin said, “This is the fastest that the boys and girls have run this year and one of the best performances since I have been hear. If they stay focused we should do well for the rest of the season.”
The Running Titans travel to Tom Sawyer Park on Sept. 21st for the Trinity / Valkyrie Invitational.
Anyone up for an adventure?
We are looking for hosts for incoming exchange students, arriving next fall for the following school year. Hosts commit to room and board only, as students come with their own insurance and spending money. As their coordinator, I will help with initial paperwork, secure the school slot, and maintain the placement all year. Right now , we have Hanna from Norway who wants to join the choir and likes hiking and working with kids. Or, there’s Mads from Denmark who is into soccer, or Morris from Germany who is a junior fireman in his town, and specializes in trampoline jumping. All speak great English, but need you to host them!! Contact me with any questions/interest. Sally Crespo at 502-593-0318 or sunbeam916@yahoo.com.
MLCHS ATHLETIC BOOSTERS would love to have you join our team!! Please fill out the form, return it and any donation back to the school.
