Weekly Newsletter
This week, I'd like to highlight two of the newest members of our ECHS Counseling team - Mr. Brad Simi and Ms. Jennifer Ratliff!
Mrs. Ratliff says that she is so excited to be the counselor for last names Ort - Sai. She is an Oceanside native and graduate of El Camino. This is her tenth year in education. After working in Vista and in Anchorage, Alaska, she says that it feels great to be back in Wildcat country!
While Mr. Simi is new to El Camino High School, he is not new to OUSD. he has been a counselor in our district for sixteen years, ten of which were at the "other high school." :-)
When he is not working, he can usually be found hanging out with his wife, daughter and miniature dachshund, surfing Ponto or mountain biking. He says he is thankful for the warm welcome he has received here at EC and he is quickly learning that in fact "The Sun [does] Always Shines in Wildcat Country"! Mr. Simi supports students with last names Cas - F.
Please help me in welcoming Mrs. Ratliff and Mr. Simi to our Wildcat counseling team!!

School Safety and Security
The Oceanside Unified School District is committed to maintaining safe and secure campuses in order to promote the health, and well-being of our students, families, and staff. The following prevention practices are in place to support the safety and security of our school.
- In September, all of our staff will participate in an Active Assailant training where we will learn and practice response protocols for keeping our students safe in the unlikely situation involving an armed intruder.
- Our school regularly practices disaster and evacuation drills with our students and staff, including a minimum of two lockdown drills per year.
- OUSD partners with the Oceanside Police Department to provide four dedicated School Resource Officers (SRO) who are trained members of the National Association of School Resource Officers. El Camino has an SRO stationed here on our campus. The SROs will respond to any safety issues that arise at any of our schools.
- OUSD employs a highly trained team of over 45 Campus Security who serve our middle schools, high schools, and Surfside Academy.
- This summer, our administrative and custodial team led by the Student Services Coordinator, SRO(s) and OPD SWAT Officers conducted a comprehensive campus security walkthrough.
- Our school has the Raptor Visitor Management System which tracks all visitors or volunteers entering campus. Authorized visitors are then presented with a clearly marked identification badge.
- Our school has a comprehensive Crisis Response Plan that is reviewed annually with all staff, and placed in all classrooms, that details how to safely respond to specific emergency situations.
