Class Valentine Exchange
Also, if your child chooses to participate, please make sure your child has a valentine for every child in the class. This is a great time to practice name writing and using capital letters at the beginning of people's names. Class list have or will be sent home in orange folders.

All students will be dismissed at 12:15 those days. Please make sure your child knows how he/she is getting home on Early Release days.

Breakfast , Snacks , Tardies and More
Our class has a morning snack time. Your child can bring a healthy snack to school and eat it during this time. I do not supply snacks due to student allergies. Also, please make sure your student understands that it is very important for he/she NOT to share their snack and that they understand what they are to eat for snack versus what they are to eat for lunch. Please do not send drinks for snack as students have access to the water fountain.
Also, many students are coming to school tardy. Students who are tardy miss valuable learning opportunities and it is distracting to others when a student who is tardy enters the classroom. Teaching and learning begins prompting at 8:15! Thank you so much for your help with this at home.
Finally, if your child is sick and absent from school please make sure to send a note with your child regarding his/her absence. Please remember that student travel and vacations are considered an unexcused absence.
Next week, we are learning...
In reading students will begin learning how to read a short passage and answer questions related to key details. This is a preview to what students will be expected to do in first grade.
In writing, students will dive deeper into "how to" writing by learning how to write directions about something they know how to do. Students will learn how to number their steps, use words such as first, next, last as well as illustrate the steps and label. You can help with this by asking your child to read their writing to you and prompting them to add more details. Encourage your child to write tricky words correctly by listening to the sounds they hear and writing them in sequence. I
In math, we will be looking for mastery of previous taught skills as well as explore how to compose and decompose shapes from new shapes. At this time, students should be able to identify 2D and 3D shapes, understand the terms "vertices, faces, solid", be able to identify shapes in the world (a dice is a cube, a pencil is a cylinder, a ball is a sphere, etc) , understand the meaning of positional words (over, under, in, out, behind, in front of, left, right) and identify, create and extend patterns. Students will complete a summative assessment next week.
In social studies, we will continue our study on the physical attributes of rocks and soil. We will also identify materials that make up the earth.
