Here's what's happening in MS this week!

We continue to enjoy having your children in our classrooms. Thank you for sharing them with us!
ENGLISH
7th Grade: Right now we are studying Utopias and we will begin reading The Giver this week. In grammar, we are currently working on adjectives, adverbs, double negatives, conjunctions, and interjections.
8th Grade: We have just started reading The Outsiders and are currently working on a pre-reading activity. Students are researching the late 50’s and the 60’s and will create a Google Slideshow and present their findings to the class. In grammar, we are currently working on adjectives, adverbs, double negatives, conjunctions, and interjections.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We have been learning about Chinese philosophies and how they shaped Chinese culture during different dynasties. We will be exploring more details about some of these early Chinese dynasties as well as learning about the Silk Road and its effect on China.

MATH
6th Grade: 6th graders had a quiz on Friday, some did not finish and they can finish Monday during seminar. If needed, corrections and retakes should be finished this week. This week we will begin talking about the customary and metric units of measuring. We will be converting within systems, for example inches into yards, and between systems, for example from inches into centimeters.
7th Grade: 7th graders ended Friday with a quiz that finished our chapter on two step equations. If needed, corrections and retakes should be finished this week. We will begin this week solving inequalities, which are problems that involve greater than and less than.
8th Grade: 8th graders had a quiz on Friday. If needed, corrections and retakes should be finished this week. We continue our algebra this week solving equations. There will be a quiz Friday this week.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: We have been continuing to extend our Robotics class into our Science class. 6th graders are excelling at problem solving and creating robots that they can program or control with the Lego Commander app.
7th Grade: We have been discussing different rock types and the rock cycle. Next we will be delving deeper into volcanic activity on earth and what role it plays in Earth’s cycles.
8th Grade: The students had a quiz on absolute ages of rocks and fossils on Friday. Then we will spend the next unit looking at the geologic time scale and Earth’s history over time.
ART
8th Grade: The students will be starting on Tuesday on the highly anticipated celebrity drawings. Learning how to grid and enlarge a photo while studying facial proportions, shading and texture.
