Take a Taste Tuesday
This week Miss McGee’s fifth grade class got to taste onions. We learned that onions add a savory flavor to many foods and are enjoyed both raw and cooked. They are high in fiber and potassium and are thought to be good for your heart. Even though they can make our eyes tear up when cutting them and leave us needing a breath mint, we agree that onions are tasty. For something completely different, Miss Grace brought us pickled pearl onions. Just like when you put cucumbers in vinegar to make pickles, the same thing happens to onions when they are soaked in vinegar. They become pickled.
Here is a link to some instructions on how to cut onions without tears: http://www.wikihow.com/Chop-Onions-Without-Tears
Friendly Reminders -
On time arrival at school is VERY important in order for students to start their day successfully! The school opens at 7:00 a.m. each morning with adult supervision. Starting at 7:30 a.m., students are allowed to go directly to their classroom. Arriving by 7:30 allows for the students to have a smooth start to their day, not feel rushed, get things unpacked, and not miss any instruction. The tardy bell rings at 7:45 a.m., and students who aren’t in the building at 7:45 a.m. are counted tardy. Three tardies equal an absence.
Student Absences: In order for a student to make up and receive credit for work assigned during an unexcused absence, the student must submit one week in advance a written notification of the planned absence to the principal. When no prior notification is given, students shall receive a zero for all work assigned during the absence.
Please remember to contact the Child Safe Line at 469-752-0600 option 3 to report your student’s absence. Also, please send a signed note upon your student’s return. If note is not received within 3 days, your child’s absence will be reported as unexcused. Please note that emails are not acceptable, the note must be handwritten or typed and signed by the parent.
Carlisle has partnered with School Spirit Vending to provide positive pencils and stickers for students to purchase for .50 cents an item. The machine takes quarters only and is available for student use either before school or after school.
