Thursday Updates

Dear Galvin Families,

Every Thursday (occasionally it's a Friday) we send out a weekly update and reminder of any events in the upcoming week(s) at The Galvin. Below are next week's upcoming events.

Picture Retake Day

Picture retake day at GMS will take place on Tuesday November 19th in the morning. Any students wishing to have their pictures retaken should bring back their original photos in the original packaging on that day. Also, any students who missed the original picture day, we have pictures envelopes in the office. All pictures are pre-paid.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

The GMS Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on Wednesday, November 20th from 11:45-2:15, 2:45-4:45, and 5:45-7:45. Appointments may be electronically via the School Appointments website at An email containing information about how to sign up and access School Appointments was sent to families on Tuesday, November 5th.

Staff/Teacher Appreciation Breakfast

Hello Galvin Community,

We have our annual Teacher/Staff Appreciation Breakfast coming up on Friday, November 22nd. We are in need of some delicious donations. Bagels will be delivered from Life’s a Bagel but other baked goods, fruits, yogurt, granola etc. would all be very helpful. If you have a special hot breakfast dish you would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated.

I will be setting up in the Library after school on Thursday, November 21st until 3:30 pm and I will be back there by 6:30 am on Friday, November, 22nd for anyone who wants to drop off food. If neither of those times works for you to drop off we can work something else out.

Student Demographic Sheets

On Friday, November 1st, we sent an email containing a link to your child's demographic information. If you have already reviewed your information and submitted your responses, thank you. It is important that we have accurate student information on file. This includes student and parent/guardian contact information, as well as emergency and medical information. Please take a few moments to review the data and make any updates as needed.

8th Grade Trip Reminder: Deposits Due 11/29!

Please remember to sign your child up for this year's 8th grade trip. This year you have two options: a 4 day/3 night DC/NYC trip (May 26 - 29) or a 1 day NYC trip (May 29). You can sign up for either by visiting the Grand Classroom website. The deposit is due November 29, 2019. A $99 registration fee secures your child's spot on the trip.

Galvin Middle School Musical

Auditions for this year's Galvin Middle School Musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, take place this week. Students may pick one of the following days to audition:

  • Wednesday, November 13 (late bus available).
  • Thursday, November 14 (late bus available).
  • Friday, November 15 (NO late bus available).

Early Dismissal

We realize that it may be necessary at times to dismiss your child from school. If this need occurs, please write a note in the morning stating the name of your child, grade, and time of dismissal. Your child should bring this note to the Guidance secretary, Lynn Piana, before school. This notice is posted in our daily attendance for the teachers. Children may then leave their class at the appropriate time and check out through the main office. All parents and guardians must come to the main office to pick up their children. This note in the morning also alleviates interrupting classes to page the student. Thank you.

Lost and Found

As the school year is moving along we are accumulating a large amount of lost and found! We have 2 large boxes in the atrium by the gym doors (1st floor). Please ask your children to take a look for any items they may be missing. We have jackets, sweatshirts, lunchboxes, water bottles, sneakers etc.

CAPE Spelling Bee!

CAPE is looking for a parent volunteer to serve as the GMS Parent Liaison for the Spelling Bee. The role of school liaison involves emailing the list of parents whose children are selected to be on a Spelling Bee team. The liaison will need to follow-up with families to confirm that their child can participate. This includes obtaining email confirmation that serves as a waiver, as well as ordering team t-shirts in collaboration with the GMS CAPT and administration. Once the teams are set, the liaison can recruit volunteers from the families involved to help organize practice sessions at school. If you are interested, please reach out to
