"The young man knows the rules, but the old man knows the exceptions."

~Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Picture Day

Get those smiles ready because picture day is Friday! Take a look at the picture packet information that was sent home if you plan to order photos.

Jog-a-thon

Shaw's annual fundraiser if off and running. The jog-a-thon is a great way to help your child's classroom earn funds for field trips and other exciting activities throughout the school year. 100% of all funds remain at Shaw.

The jog-a-thon date has been scheduled for Friday, October 7th this year. Bring on that sunshine!

PLC Monday Reminder

The next PLC Monday will take place this coming Monday, October 3rd.

  • School begins at 10:15am on Mondays
  • Students may be dropped off at 10:00am
  • Buses run on Mondays; your students will be picked up by buses later on Mondays

Early Drop-off PLC Mondays

If you plan to utilize early drop-off at 9:00am on Mondays please read below:

K-2 grade students are in Morning Movers with Mrs. Warner. You need to fill out a participation permission slip for this activity. Students dropped after 9:20 will remain in the hallway and sit until the bell rings at 10:05. Megan will have extra permission slips if you need one on Monday morning.

3-5 grade students will have a choice to join a classroom for Board Games and Chill Out time or to remain in the hallway sitting until the bell rings at 10:05.

Choir students will meet Mrs. West and go to their practice location.

No Bus Days

Shaw has been assigned NO BUS Days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

You can help by staggering morning drop-off; drop-off takes place at the front door. Please have kids prepared to exit your car on the curb side. The parking lot is for you to park and walk your child into the school.

  • last name A-M drop between 8:45-9:00
  • last name N-Z drop between 9:00-9:15

Afternoon pick-up will remain the same. Be prepared to follow the guidance of our staff. Once traffic volume reaches a critical point we will direct traffic through a loop to relieve Fishhook congestion. Unsure what I'm referring to? Simply follow the leader.

1st-5th grade parents (RED ZONE) try to arrive after 3:50-3:55 to allow our kindergarten crew to clear the parking lot. This helps tremendously!

End of Day Protocols

The end of the school day has a lot going on. Please understand we may not be able to get your child a pass if you call to change transportation after 3:00pm.

Additionally, we will not call into classrooms to pull students for early pick-up between 3:30-3:45; too chaotic of a time. Again, thank you of your cooperation and understanding with us.

Car Rider Daily Pick-up Tips

Kindergarten students, afternoon pre-school students, and their older siblings will leave the school a tad after 3:30 each day and head toward the GREEN ZONE and BLUE ZONE respectively.

Students in 1st-5th grade will leave the school building at 3:40pm to head toward their pick-up location in the RED ZONE.

Please, please, please listen to me when I say that getting here super early only adds to the chaos. If you are picking up in the RED ZONE (1st-5th grade) try arriving closer to the 3:50-3:55 timeline.

Again, my number one priority is student safety! Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate our chaotic traffic flow.

No More Free Breakfast & Lunches

The waiver to offer free breakfast and lunch to ALL kids will NOT happen this year. To receive free meals, families will need to submit the free and reduced lunch application for this school year. To access the online form you may follow this link to the Nutrition Services homepage https://www.schoolcafe.com/MSBSD. Students who received free lunch last year will not have access to it any longer once we hit October. Next week is your last week of free lunches until fees will start to accrue on your child's account.

If you would prefer a paper copy to fill out you may access it at the following link

As always, if you have any questions about this, please call the front office at 352-0500 and we'll assist. We want to help make this process as simple as possible for you.
