Principal's Message

Dear Nord Families,

The school year is moving right along here at Nord! I am extremely proud of all the hard work of our students and staff each and every day! We have some exciting events planned for the end of the third quarter and look forward to sharing the fun with our students who continue to be respectful, responsible, and safe at school.

I would like to remind families that students are not permitted to have drinks with them during the day. This includes bringing outside beverages into the building during arrival. Students are permitted to bring a water bottle, but I ask for your support in ensuring bottles are filled with water only.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Please do not hesitate to call the Nord Main Office at 440-988-4441 or email me if you have any additional questions, comments, or concerns.

Go Comets,

Mrs. Harigan

5th Grade Visit from AJH Counselor

This week, Mrs. Hannah Johnson, Amherst Junior High School Counselor, will be visiting with all fifth-grade students! Mrs. Johnson will be the Class of 2030's school counselor while they are at AJH. During her visit, she will share information about transitioning to AJH and show students how to join her Google classroom. She will talk about the AJH schedule and what it will look like for the incoming 6th graders next school year.

Students will not be scheduling for AJH at this time, this visit is just to start helping students prepare for the transition to junior high. If you have a fifth-grade student and have any questions about next school year, please feel free to contact Mrs. Johnson via email (hannah_johnson@amherstk12.org) or phone at 440-988-1648. You may also visit AJH's school counseling website by clicking here.

5th Grade Letters for Total Solar Eclipse

A few weeks ago, our 5th-grade science classes studied the solar system. The students learned about the total solar eclipse that will cross North America on April 8, 2024, and that Amherst is in the path of totality. Each student was tasked with writing a persuasive letter to Mr. Molnar, Superintendent, to try and convince him whether or not Amherst should have school on the day of the total solar eclipse.

Mr. Molnar visited Nord and invited nine students with the top letters to attend the Amherst Extempted Village School District Board of Education meeting on February 27th. These students had the opportunity to share their opinion with the Board of Education members before the board voted on whether or not to have school during the total solar eclipse. After a brief discussion, the Amherst Board of Education passed the motion to cancel school on April 8, 2024!

Thank you to the fifth-grade Science teachers, Mrs. Liming, Mrs. Henry, Mrs. Kinser, and Mr. Hermensky, for guiding our students through such a fun learning experience. Thank you to all the fifth-grade students for your hard work and persuasive letter writing!
