Missing Chromebooks/Chargers/Hot Spots

Have you been going through things getting ready for the new school year? If you came across a Chromebook, charging cord, or a hotspot, please return them to us as soon as possible. You can drop them off at Edgewood Monday-Friday from 6 AM - 3:00 PM.


Edgewood students will be issued their Chromebook, charging block, and a protective sleeve at our Welcome Back events. Students will check out the device in the LMC. Once issued, students will keep their device until they leave the District or are given a new one.


We appreciate your help in this matter!

Please Complete Online Data Verification

Parents, please register your student for next fall if you haven't already done so. The online data verification replaces the paperwork you used to fill out each year, including updated information/emergency contacts.


This needs to be done before receiving your student's schedule at the Welcome Back event. If you do not have it completed before the Welcome Back Night, you will need to do it then which will take about 5-15 minutes to complete depending on # of children you have in the district. Please do this at home prior to save on time.


To register, go to www.moundsviewschools.org and log into your ParentVUE account. Click on the "Online Data Verification" button in the upper right-hand corner (see picture below) to start the process. Be sure your contact information is correct, current address (please attach proof of residence), and you have emergency contacts listed for your student.


PLEASE NOTE: 7th graders (& 8th graders who did not get the needed shots last year due to Covid) must also have updated vaccination information before receiving their schedules. You can upload their updated vaccinations when you complete their online data verification.

Welcome Back Community Night & Picnic

We look forward to hosting families at our “Welcome Back Community Night” and Picnic on Thursday, September 2, from 4:30-7:30 PM. Come for food, meet the staff, and connect with other Edgewood families. Drop off forms, pick up class schedules/locker assignments, take Lifetouch school pictures, find out about after-school activities, etc. CHANGE FROM PRIOR COMMUNICATION: ALL grades will get a locker assignment on their schedules - no need for 7th/8th grade to request a locker.


· EPAT Family Picnic – Thursday, September 2, from 4:30-6:30 PM. Food will be provided at no cost.

Bring a blanket or a lawn chair.

· Meet Your Teacher! – Teachers will be in their rooms from 5-7:30 PM.


PLEASE NOTE: If you cannot make it that evening, we will have an alternate date on Friday, September 3, from 7-10 AM to pick up your schedule, get locker assignment, and take your picture. Teachers will not be available to meet this day.


Wednesday, September 8, will be the 1st Day of School for 6th Grade ONLY and Thursday, September 9, will be the 1st Day of School for 7th & 8th Grade students.


Teacher Wish List: If you are willing, please donate a box of Kleenex tissues to be used in the classrooms during the school year. You can drop them off at either entrance (main lobby/activities). Thank you!

2021-22 Important School Information

As we prepare to welcome the return of your child for the 2021-22 school year, below is information about what in-person learning at Edgewood will look like as well as other resources.


Face coverings - Students and staff are required to wear masks while inside the school. Masks must cover both the mouth and nose.


Classrooms - Considering the size and shape of every unique instructional space, social distancing (3 feet or more) will be utilized to every extent possible.


Arrival/Dismissal - As has been communicated, the mode by which students arrive determines the time and door through which they will enter. Once inside the school, students are to report directly to one of three large staging areas based on grade level. From there students will be dismissed to class by grade level, with ample time to stop at their locker on the way to first period. For additional details on our staggered arrival plan, click here.


Students will be dismissed from their 7th period class by grade level and will exit out the same door through which they entered.


Passing time & the use of Backpacks in place of lockers - Students have the option of using a school issued locker to store personal items during the day, but access to lockers during passing time is prohibited. Our expectation is that students carry learning materials with them in their backpack to each class. The only purpose of passing time is to transition from one class to the next. Access to bathrooms, student services office, our library or student lockers will be granted individually using a teacher-issued hallway pass.


A plan for staggering passing time by grade level is at the ready should we need to make an adjustment in response to evidence of spread.


Student Meals - Students eat lunch with grade level peers (class sizes range from 235-245 students). Additional seating will be in place to allow for increased distancing while eating. Students will choose their seats on a daily basis. With their masks on, students will walk into the cafeteria, go through the lunch line (if needed) and find their seat. Masks will be removed only during the time students are eating (as minimal exposure as possible). Students will put their masks on immediately after eating and will remain with their masks on until they are excused from the cafeteria.


Upon finishing their lunch, students will be required to immediately mask. Gym and outdoor space (weather dependent) is available to students during the lunch period, which will further allow for distancing and reduce the number of students gathered in a single space.

Plan for quarantined students Similar to last school year, students that show or report symptoms common of Covid-19 will be moved to a safe space and parents will be asked to come and pick them up.


In the event that a student has to quarantine and their access to the school building is compromised, teachers will employ one or more of the following options to ensure a continuation of learning:


  1. Synchronous teaching (via Google Meet)

  2. Teachers will post lessons, videos, and assignments in Google Classroom to be accessed by the student when it is most convenient.

  3. Students will be invited to virtually attend after school or office hour sessions with teachers

  4. The school will send books or other materials, and assignments to the office to be picked up or delivered to the student’s home.

Before & After-School Programs

  • Edgewood offers a wide variety of after-school activities throughout the school year.

  • In addition, Edgewood offers many sports organized by Community Education

  • Programs and after school buses typically begin the second week of school.

  • Edgewood offers an afterschool snack for free to all students (2:25-2:35)

EPAT (EW PARENTS AND TEACHERS)

EPAT Information

Edgewood Parents & Teachers (EPAT) is an organization in which parents, as well as Edgewood (EW) teachers and administration work together to help meet the needs of the EW students and staff. This includes funding for EPAT-sponsored student events, providing grants to teachers for items not covered in the school's budget, and staff appreciation events.


We understand that not all families may be in a position to give right now, but if you have the means, please consider a direct donation to EPAT. There are several ways to contribute, but direct donation maximizes the dollars available to support our students and teachers! Here are our current fundraisers:

COMMUNITY ED ACTIVITIES/COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

Middle School Community Ed Programs

The middle school community ed page has been updated. Registration is available for Soccer, Tennis, Ultimate Frisbee, Run Club, and Volleyball. The Enrichment Classes are also now open. For more information or to register, click here.

Community Program Offerings

In addition to the youth programs and enrichment opportunities available through the District's Community Ed Department, a number of activities, camps and youth programs are hosted by area cities, local businesses, community organizations and school PTA groups. Please see offerings available in the district attendance area here.

OUR EYES ARE ON IRONDALE

Irondale Fall Sports


Registration is open for all Fall Sports. Registration must be completed online through the Irondale Activities website at: https://www.moundsviewschools.org/Page/5324.


Students must be registered in order to try-out. Any athlete that does not make a team, or decides to drop prior to the 1st contest is entitled to a full refund of their registration fee.


Registration will close for all Fall sports by Monday, September 6th (Labor Day). Sports that hold try-outs and are required to make cuts may have an earlier closing date. Please check individual sport webpages for additional information regarding registration closing dates.


Physicals are good for three years from the date of the exam, and must be valid for the entire season the athlete will be participating in. A valid physical must be in our system in order to open the online registration form. New physicals require 24 hours to process. Physicals can be submitted via e-mail, fax, US Mail, or by dropping off in the Irondale Activities Office. To check the date of a student’s last physical, log in to your ParentVUE account and select the Student Info tab. The current physical date is located at the bottom of the page. Copies of the 2021-22 MSHSL Physical form are available in the Activities Office, and also on our Activities website.

Middle School Consent Form for High School Activities

Seventh & eighth grade athletes that wish to participate on a high school team will also register online. Before you begin your online registration, approval must be obtained from the middle school principal or dean, the high school activities director and coach. In addition, signatures from both student & parent/guardian are also required. Please complete this Middle School consent form and deliver to the high school activities office before you begin the online registration.

Need help getting food? Or want to help others who do? - Many Minnesotans are facing financial difficulties related to the COVID-19 pandemic and there are supports available to help! Our own Ralph Reeder Food Shelf offers weekday scheduled appointments. Click the link to learn more about how to schedule an appointment for a pick up or to make a donation to the food shelf. And new this week, Minnesota is launching a program to help connect families with personalized assistance and information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) - more information available at www.mnfoodhelper.org.
