Letter from Principal Mr. Cetin regarding COVID-19
Dear Parents,
As you may be aware, there are some cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) recently confirmed in Florida, leading Governor Ron DeSantis to declare a State of Emergency (Executive Order 20-52). Planning and preparing is always important, and Osceola Science Charter School understands that concerns about health and safety are paramount for all students, staff and parents.
Because of this, OSCS is taking the threat of COVID-19 very seriously and we are dedicated to ensuring proper protocols are in place to protect our staff and students. The school’s current cleaning crew is disinfecting the school every night, all touching points, door handles, restrooms, classrooms against COVID-19. Hand sanitizers are available in every classroom. In the morning announcements and with the posters in each restrooms and hallways, we implemented hand-washing strategies and include washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
I also want to add that we follow Osceola School District guidelines and you can get updates from the following link: https://osceolaschools.net/news/newsroom/coronavirus_information_for_parents_and_students
According to the CDC COVID-19 is spread similarly to the flu, mostly through contact from an infected individual and transmitted by coughing and sneezing. Common symptoms include fever, coughing, shortness of breath and lower and upper respiratory issues. It is more likely to occur severe conditions in the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
It is currently flu season, and we encourage our parents to continue to stress these common guidelines with all members of your household especially your students:
• Keep your personal hygiene at the top level
• If you are sick, stay home.
• Take flu antivirals if prescribed.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Carry and use alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Immediately dispose of the used tissue.
• Monitor your symptoms.
Lastly, COVID-19 is a new disease and information regarding its spread and appropriate protective measure continues to evolve. The CDC and The Florida Department of Health are your best source of information about the disease.

Osceola Science Charter School will be on Spring Break from March 13 – March 20, 2020. While students and staff are away from school, we will use this time to further clean and disinfect hard surfaces. At this time, no decisions have been made to close schools after Spring Break as the threat of Coronavirus remains low in our community, particularly for young people, and there are no confirmed cases in Osceola County. The Osceola School District will follow the latest recommendations from the Florida Department of Education and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
Students or district employees who go on foreign travel, to any country, must self-isolate for 14 days upon return until further notice. Student absences will be excused, and students will be allowed to make up assignments and tests. Arrangements can be made through the school once parents notify
administration that their child will need to self-isolate. Employees will need to use their leave time to cover their time away during the self-isolation period.

All upcoming field trips will be cancelled
The best prevention is continued practice of healthy habits, including frequent washing of hands with soap and water, covering coughs and sneezes, and limiting travel. Parents, students, and staff are encouraged to regularly check the district’s website and social media for updates.
