Classroom News

Welcome back from Spring Break. Hopefully it was restful and rewarding spending time with your child. It is hard to believe Spring is here. We will be in the final push to make sure your children are ready for next year. We have this week of this unit and three more units to complete before the year is over. We must be having a lot of fun because this year is flying by!

What We Are Learning This Week

We are continuing Unit 8 -Traditional Tales and Whole/Part/Whole. This unit is about knowing different ways of communicating one's thinking and how it is important for making good decisions, knowing similarities in all things and people, seeing how things can be taken apart and/or put together again and how using tools can help us learn. Best of all we are going to read a lot of fairy tales and nursery rhymes.

Our Main Goals this week:

Language: Children will be able to identify the letter W and things that begin with the letter. Our children will be working on classic Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes. We will be sequencing the story of the Three Little Pigs, and the alphabet. We will be continuing our work on beginning sounds of words.

Math: Your child will be able to measure using non-standard units ( paper clips, coins, crayons, hand spans, and unifix cubes), We will also be exploring measuring weight. We will be using bucket scales to weigh different items. It is hands on math exploration.

Social Studies: Your child will be working on recognizing difference between people and cultures.

Science: Your child will learn to use measuring tools to measure the length of different objects and weight.

Social Skills: We will review feelings and work on strong feelings that are uncomfortable. Your child will learn about feeling frustrated. Children can feel frustrated when they are trying to do something that is really hard. We are learning the steps to deal with frustration and how to calm down.
