This week in our class...

This week's star is Rachel!

Thanks to everyone for helping us have a fun week last week with 100 day and Valentine's day. Thanks for donating snacks and your time. The kids had a blast!!!

I goofed up on my message about the book order last week. Orders are due Tuesday, the 16th so if you would still like to order, you have a few days.

The Valley View talent show is this Friday. It's a fun event at North Middle School where you can see all of special talents of students at Valley View. Charlie and Brienne from our class will be in one of the acts.

Reader's Workshop

We will work on strategies to look at chunks of words this week by doing some word work activities in our lessons. Students will work on not stretching out words letter by letter but looking for parts of words they know from other words.

Writer's Workshop

Students started working on how to books last week. This type of writing words on writing step by step directions for things students know how to do. They use transition words like first, next, then and last and draw pictures to help give their reader directions. We all started by writing how to get ready for winter recess.

Math Workshop

We are going to work on comparing and contrasting 2D and 3D shapes in our lessons this week. Our goal for our buddy game is naming hexagon, trapeziod, rhombus and triangle.

Read Across America Reading Celebration

Students will be bringing home information soon telling what they can bring on this fun day of celebrating reading! The UWM men's basketball team will be at Valley View as guest readers for the morning.
