TESOL 2016 Recap
Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages
CoTeaching Strategies Thro Gradual Release of Responsability
The topic of co-teaching and collaboration for the sake of ELLs is gaining national attention. Questions to ask:
- What propels successful co-teachers forward?
-How are they able to keep the balance and move their ELLs faster on the road of language development than they would move in a stand-alone program?

Note Taking
Session Title: Notetaking
Description:
Important to prepare students: what to listen for. Teach critical thinking.
- Background noise/interference: Speakers self-sabotage; non-sequiturs, incomplete sentences, poor pronunciation, jokes, paraphrasing, mistakes w/o repair.
Takeaways:
- Note Taking is a trigger for memory. Ss who take notes remember more than those who do not.
- Best formats: Cornell, outlines, mind-mapping
- After note taking important to ask/answer questions, transform thinking into four domains (L, S, R, W) and apply new ideas.
- Notes taken in longhand lead to better processing than notes taken on computer.
