Throughout the week Gentry students will be participating in various daily activities and lessons that will help to promote and further encourage this healthy way of life.
Monday, October 28- Red-y to Live Drug Free: Wear Red Day
Tuesday, October 29- Life is Your Journey, Live Drug Free: Tacky Tourist Day

Thursday, October 31- No School
Friday, November 1- No School
Jaguar Rumble
The Gentry Jaguars roared loudly last Friday and raised almost $900 for cancer research! The Jaguar Rumble was a HUGE success because of the 8th grade athletes who gave up their Friday afternoon, the coaches who worked with them, and the Gentry students who came to cheer them on. We were excited to have a number of parents join us and hope to continue this tradition for years to come. THANK YOU for your support! Everyone involved was a winner (even the football boys who lost two sets....we love you for it)!

Fall Athletic Recognition Night
Our Fall Athletic Banquet will be held Wednesday, October 30th from 6:30-8:00 pm in the GMS Cafetorium. Our coaches use this evening to wrap up fall athletics (Football/Volleyball/Cross Country and Cheer Squad) by getting athletes, parents and coaches together one last time to enjoy dessert, review some season highlights and distribute awards. Hope to see you there!
Columbia Values Diversity Celebration Student Writings Program
Students in grades 4-12 are invited to submit their original essays and poetry for possible publication in the 2020 Columbia Values Diversity Celebration student writings booklet. The theme this year is Our Dream: The Journey Continues.
An independent selection committee will choose selected writings from all grade levels for publication. This booklet will be distributed to over 1,000 people at the annual community celebration on January 16, 2020, and published on the celebration website. Four or five students will be selected with the opportunity to read their works and be featured in a video produced by the City Channel, which will be played at the celebration as well as broadcast after the event.
Submission guidelines for the program are available here:
https://www.como.gov/arts/cvdc/student-writings/. These guidelines also include brief prompts designed to stimulate student thought and creativity. Student writings are due November 13 and can be sent to the Community Relations office via school mail.

Fall Athletics Uniform/Equipment Turn-In
If your student participated on any of our fall (Football, Volleyball, Spirit Squad or Cross Country) athletic teams, now is the time to have them return their equipment and/or team uniform. Please be sure that their uniform is clean and returned in a plastic bag with your student's name clearly printed on the bag. Your student can return this to their coach before/after school or they may return their uniform to the main office, with the exception of football players who will be required to turn their uniform and equipment in directly to their coach. Thanks all!
7th Grade Science Field Trip
One of the goals of 7th grade science is to teach the students to continually be aware of how we as humans impact the world around us. To help students better understand this impact, 7th grade science classes will be taking a field trip to the Columbia Landfill Center November 6th (Team G), November 7th (Team M), and November 8th (Team S). These will be all-day field trips from 9:00 am–2:15 pm. Each trip will start with a visit to the Waste Center in the morning and will conclude with a picnic lunch and trash pick up at Rock Bridge State Park in the afternoon. Contact Mr. Nichols (Ganichols@cpsk12.org) with questions!
