Family Update

Davis Middle School

Friday, August 12, 2022

“I’ve always loved the first day of school better than the last day of school. Firsts are best because they are beginnings.” – Jenny Han

Dear Davis Families,

It was so good to see many of our students in the building this week for 6th grade orientation and for schedule walkthroughs. If you were unable to attend either of these, and you still have questions that were not answered in any of the back to school or 6th grade orientation information posted on our website, I will be hosting two virtual Q&A sessions on Monday. One will be at 10 AM and one will be at 3 PM. Please email me your questions in advance if at all possible. There won't be any type of presentation, just simply answering any lingering questions. The link for the Q&A is here.

Our staff is working hard to prepare for the start of school and to welcome your students on Wednesday. The building will be closed on Tuesday as we will be in meetings all day as part of this preparation. If you were unable to attend walkthroughs this week and still need to pick up school supplies you ordered in advance, you can do so between 9-11:30 am and 12:30-3 pm on Monday. If you are unable to pick up supplies, we will get them to your students at the end of the day on Wednesday to bring home.

School starts on Wednesday. Don't forget to take those 1st day of school pictures and post them to any of your social media accounts. Use the hashtag #DCSDay1 so we can see all of the great pictures!

We are really looking forward to an amazing 2022-23 school year!

Go Irish!

Student Drop Off/Pick Up Information

If you will be driving your students to and from school, please drop off and pick up in the athletic parking lot. Please do not use the front entrance as this is the bus loop and you may block busses or get blocked in by the busses.

Once in the athletic parking lot, if you are a front car, please follow the loop around and pull all the way forward to the end of the sidewalk. This allows 4-5 cars to unload at one time. It is important for your students to be ready to exit the car quickly and move into the building. Then the next 4-5 cars can pull forward. This allows a smooth and safe flow of traffic. Please do not pull around other cars and please do not block traffic. We need to keep this area safe for all. Thank you!

Also, please plan to drop off no earlier than 8 AM. Students dropped off between 8-8:15 AM are welcome to wait in the commons until the academic wing opens at 8:15 AM.

Breakfast and Lunch Information

Dublin City Schools will be partnering with Sodexo Food Services for all school lunches for the 2022-2023 school year. Following is important information to help you and your child navigate our lunchroom procedures:

Meals are no longer free to the population (only approved free & reduced applications will qualify). See below for details, and pricing.

  • Hot and cold meal options (breakfast & lunch) will be available to all students
  • Middle school students will be required to enter their student ID's on a touchpad to check out their purchase. We will model this for students the first several days of school.

Free and Reduced Lunches 2022-23

The USDA did not pass the waiver to make school lunches free this year. Parents who think they qualify for free or reduced lunch must fill out an application for approval. The application is on the district website, or can be found at this link: Pay Schools Central.

Please visit our Food Services Website HERE, or follow these helpful links below:

Dublin City Schools uses PaySchools as the management system for school lunch payments. If you did not set up an account last year when we changed from EZ Pay, please make sure to do so now at this link. Please click here for an instructional video on how to create your new account.

To register for your PaySchools account, you will need:

  • Your contact information

  • Your child’s student ID number

  • Your payment information (i.e. credit card or bank account)

If you choose to link your PaySchools account with your bank account, there will be a smaller service fee per transaction.

If you set up an account last year, please make sure to go into the system to make sure all information is current. Add Money to your Child's Lunch Account.

You will also find the free/reduced application on the PaySchools website. It is important for everyone to fill this out before school starts. Any information from previous years does not carry over for this. If you need a paper copy of the application, please click on this link.

  • If your child has not yet received these vaccines, please schedule an appointment with your child's health care provider or local health department. Please submit your child's completed immunization record to the school clinic.

Irish Athletics

Fall sports are well underway at Davis! It is very exciting to have the kids back on campus and working hard to get ready for the new sports season. It is still not too late to join our football or cross country teams. Any interested athletes in the 7th or 8th grade simply need to have a current physical on file and be registered in Final Forms. The deadline for joining these last two open programs is August 17.

Athletic Event Tickets going Online for Dublin City Schools: This fall sports season Davis and all of the Dublin middle schools will be utilizing the online ticketing system provided by Hometown Ticketing. Dublin middle schools will be selling athletic tickets exclusively online. (No cash sales at the gates) A specific link and page on the Athletic Website will be created for fans to buy their single game tickets and even Family Passes for the year. The Davis Hometown ticketing page went "live" on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. More details to come in the next week.

Forgotten/Lost Items & Communication

Big picture

In the event that your child forgets to bring something to school and you need to drop it off (lunch money, homework, books, sports gear etc), you can come to the school and place it on the shelving unit in the entryway. Just mark it with your child’s name and put it on the shelf corresponding to their grade. We will do our best to get the item to the student. If possible, please let your student know that you have dropped it off so that they know to pick it up.

Lost and found at Davis can be found outside of the gymnasium. Items are placed in the bins in the music wing. Students should regularly check those bins if they have misplaced items.

Cell phones are not permitted in some parts of the building so your student may not have access to or be answering their cell phone during the school day.

All calls from school will register on caller ID’s as the main school number. The office, staff members, and clinic will always leave messages. Please remind your child to always leave a message when they call home.

District Updates

Masks Welcome During 2022-2023 School Year

Our plan is to start the school year as normal as possible. The District will comply with orders or mandates from agencies with jurisdiction. Absent an order, the administration will communicate recommendations or advisories and let parents make the decision that is best for their family.

COVID-19 will be treated as we have traditionally handled any infectious illnesses in our schools, each having specific exclusion criteria. Individuals with confirmed cases of COVID-19 should remain out of school for 5 days and may return on day 6 if symptoms have improved. We ask that individuals take personal responsibility for monitoring their health and the health of their family and stay home until they are feeling better.

The Dublin City School District ended the 2021-2022 school year without a mask mandate, and we were able to have critical face-to-face instruction. We will continue to be “mask welcome” at all grade levels.
