Dublin Grizzell Middle School
Weekly Update 10/09/20
Principal's Message
It's hard to believe that we are quickly approaching the end of the 1st quarter. Please assist our teachers in reminding students to check schoology and get those missing assignments turned in before Friday. I appreciate everyone's flexibility and understanding through all the bumps along the way. I am receiving great feedback from our teacher's around our student engagement and efforts this quarter. Your students are doing a great job and continue to keep a positive attitude through it all.
I hope that everyone has been taking advantage of this great fall weather and getting outside whenever possible.
Enjoy the weekend and thank you for your continued support.
Andy

Band and Orchestra Opportunities for RLA students.
The HS instrumental teachers have been working to put together a site with resources for MS RLA orchestra and band students. These sites will only be accessible through the student's school google account.
Strings: https://sites.google.com/dublinschools.net/dcsorchestra
Band: https://sites.google.com/dublinschools.net/bandonline
The purpose of this site is to provide a place where students can choose to go to for materials and ideas for continuing their instrumental practice. This is not part of the graded curriculum, but an extension opportunity that students could take advantage of while in RLA. It is optional for families and designed to help them continue to grow in band and orchestra during the pandemic.
Clubs at Grizzell
Please take a look at the different information regarding clubs here at Grizzell. All RLA and Hybrid students are able to participate in both student council and clubs at the middle school.
For information on where to find and join the different Groups and Clubs at Grizzell, please click HERE and watch Mr. Hull's short video clip. Joining these is done through Schoology.
For a list and description of the different Groups and Clubs at Grizzell please click HERE. If you have any questions regarding clubs or student council, please email Mr. Hull at hull_jim@dublinschools.net.
Finding ways to get involved at Grizzell alongside peers makes for a much more enjoyable middle school experience.
A message from Dublin Ski and Board Club
Hello-We are hopeful for our Dublin Ski Club to continue this year on Tuesday nights starting after winter break. We have Cardinal charter busses reserved with COVID safety procedures in place. We are waiting only on Mad River Mountain to share with us what school ski clubs will look like this year with their reservation system. Per MRM: "We are currently working on the best approach to secure ski club participation through our new reservation system. As soon as we have those details, we will share with you. Our intention is to move forward with ski clubs, but it will be a collaboration that aligns with state, school and community guidelines."
We do have a NEW Schoology Group for ALL Dublin Ski and Board students grades 6-12, parents, advisors and chaperones to provide consistent communication. Here is a quick tutorial on how to join: Click Here
Join Code: 883G-68H2-K992J
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility. Positive thoughts for a Snowy Ski & Board Season. As soon as we get the information from Mad River, we will post forms and payment information through our Dublin Ski & Board Schoology Group.
Questions can be addressed through Dublin Ski & Board Schoology Group or Kristi Jerger, Dublin Ski & Board Club District Coordinator

Central Ohio Leadership Initiative Application (6th grade only)
The 6th grade Leadership Initiative is a chance for students from 5 Central Ohio middle schools to meet for an hour once a month to learn about leadership skills and strategies, discuss topics of shared interest and, finally, to select and implement a year long service project. While slightly different in format this year, Central Ohio Leadership Initiative will allow students to collaborate with peers from other schools, cultures, and backgrounds as they work together on a common project.

Anyone have a 24-volt motor with a direct current(DC)?
The Dublin Grizzell Middle School COGed class of 2025 needs some help.
This year, our class has decided to start an awesome project to build a bicycle-powered generator. We're super pumped to get the ball rolling and are already in the process of finding donations for parts. This includes a 24-volt motor with a direct current(DC). Having a motor is a crucial part of the build, being the part that allows energy to be created when the bike is pedaled. But unfortunately, buying one doesn't fit our budget. We are asking you to help support us, so if you have an old treadmill, elliptical machine, or anything of the sort with a motor that fits the description, let us know!
Thank you,
Mrs. Noteman's 4th-period COG class

Attendance Procedures
Thank you parents for adjusting to our numerous schedules and weaving in and out of busses during drop off and pick up times. Things seem to be going really well. Students should be in the building and in the classroom by 8:00 am and 12:30 pm. If students arrive after this start time, they will be directed to come to the main/attendance office and get a pass to their first class. In addition,
- Absence notifications are prefered in writing to gmsattendance@dublinschools.net
- Attendance hotline phone number is 614-718-8600
- Parents should notify attendance and it would be great if students could email their teachers to get any assignments.
Flu Shots Available through Dublin City Schools
Free flu shots will be available to students this school year. You can view the schedule and required forms at this link.
When to keep students at home?
If you have asked yourself the question, when should I keep my child home from school during this pandemic? Here is a link to guidance from Franklin County Public Health.
Out of State travel for school purposes postponed
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, out of state travel for activities such as music, athletics, and other events is postponed until further notice. These events will be continued once a vaccine is widely available and distributed, and/or as national medical conditions warrant. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
