March 1, 2019
Lakeview Leaders!
Can you believe it is March?? Get ready because the year just gets faster and faster from here on out!
**Shout out to Coach Saettel for Heros for Heart! PS - Jumping rope is way harder than it used to be and totally counts as a workout:)
**Reminder - No air fresheners or plug ins are allowed in classrooms. We received a reminder from Dr. Warren.
Be The One For Kids!
Be the One Who Welcomes Everyone
One of the best things about education is that every day is a brand-new start for everyone. No matter what happened the previous day, you are welcomed into the school building like it is the first day of the year.
- How do you welcome your students daily?
- How do you welcome your colleagues daily?
- How do you welcome families?
Reflecting on these three questions helps make sure we are making the start of each day as magical as day one!
Things to Consider:
1. How do you ensure you welcome everyone daily?
2. How do your students feel when you arrive?
3. What are three new ways you can welcome students into your classroom or school?
ARD and 504 Reminders
It is that time of year that we seem to have a lot of ARDs and 504 meetings. I have shared this information in the past, but thought a refresher would be good.
- Be sure you are clear on your calendar for dates of 504/ARD meetings. We meet at least 1 time a year with every student who has an IEP or 504.
- Be prepared - ALWAYS bring student work samples, data, and something to take notes with.
- Be ready to share strengths and weaknesses. Always start with the positive.
- DO NOT EVER SAY YOU DIDN'T KNOW THEY HAD THAT ACCOMMODATION.
- DO NOT EVER SAY YOU DON"T USE THEIR ACCOMMODATIONS
- You can say - "I haven't found that to be successful lately so I believe we can adjust that accommodation".
- Come prepared with ideas you have to implement that will contribute to student success.
- These meetings are a BIG deal with legal requirements. Imagine you are the parent at the table listening to information regarding your own child.
If you have any questions please be sure to reach out to Lea or Penny for any clarification before you attend the meeting.
Thank you!
Reminders from Specials
We need some help with addressing the bathroom issues that we are having. There are MANY students asking to go to the bathroom during our classes. It has become a constant disruption and in some cases behavioral and safety concerns. There is a scheduled 5 minutes before all Specials classes that are intended to allow for them to go to the bathrooms during that time. Please make sure you are allowing students to go to the bathroom before they come to our classes.
When we only see students once a week, and there is illness, schedule changes and other obstacles beyond our control, it is very difficult to accomplish their work if they leave for additional time during our classes.
We appreciate your help with this matter!
