This Week in First Grade
Week of August 26-30, 2013
Hopefully your first grader has been sharing some of their learning with you. (Although if they are anything like my Kindergartner, your questions of "What did you do in school today?" will be met with "I don't remember.") Remember that we have many ways of sharing our learning with our families. Check our website on a regular basis, follow us on Twitter, and keep an eye out for updates in your email inbox and your child's red home/school folder. And coming up on September 9th is our Curriculum Night, during which you will get to hear more about what your child will be learning this year, some procedures of the school and classroom, and learning expectations.
I am using a variety of methods to get information out to you, so please let me know if I've missed anything or if there is anything you would like to know more about but can't find the answers to.
There is a lot to learn about going to school in first grade. We are spending a lot of time learning routines at the beginning of the year. We learn how to make our lunch choices, turn in important information, and start our day.
Students read all around the room during Reader's Workshop. We have special chairs to sit in, they can read at their tables, and some friends may choose a stuffed "buddy" to read with.
During Math Workshop, we use a variety of tools to help us learn. We play games that will help us understand and practice what we are learning in math.
