A Message from Mrs. Schneider
We are officially one week from Summer Break! This week we celebrated one of our favorite activities--Field Day! It was so much fun seeing the students traversing the obstacle course, championing each other during Tug-of-War, and getting a bit soaked with the water balloon toss. We also had the opportunity to provide TK/Kindergarten screening for our incoming class of students. It was great to meet our newest students and the screening will allow us to balance classrooms for the fall.
The TK and Kindergarten classes are excited to perform in their very first concert as Wildcats on Tuesday, June 7th. Parents are invited to attend the performance at 2:30pm (arrival at 2:15pm).
Our 5th graders are looking forward to their last week before transitioning to Middle School. They started their end of year activities on a field trip to Urban Air Trampoline Park. On Friday, June 10th, we will be having a clap out as they exit Woodland one last time. Weather permitting, we will be doing this on the playground with music, bubbles and cheering. If it is raining, we will be lining the halls to celebrate their achievements.
Wow! That's a lot of happenings! One other thing that we'd like to share is that Woodland is getting new carpet in the classrooms this summer. The company will begin taking out the old carpeting on Sunday, June 12th. As we approach the end of the year, our teachers need to prepare their classrooms to be emptied by the movers. Students may see their teachers packing boxes full of classroom items. If your student is worried about seeing this, let them know that the teachers are just preparing for the new carpeting. Also, if you have an hour or two to spare, we could use a few extra hands to help with packing and labeling of materials in the classroom and in the pods. Please reach out to your child's teacher(s) if you'd be willing to help. I know it would be appreciated.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Schneider

Celebrating Woodland's Retirees
Our Woodland retirees have made a huge impact on hundreds of students. They will be sorely missed, but we wish them all the wonderful adventures to come!
Teaching Career: 32 years of teaching/28 years in Avondale and 24 years at Woodland.
Favorite Woodland Memory: Best Memory at Woodland...too many to count. If I had to pick one, I would say the Pink Out Day!
Plans for Retirement: My fiance', George, and I will be traveling in our camper, hiking around the United States with a home base in Cheboygan, Michigan.
Mrs. Puskarz (Ms. Monika)
Teaching Career: 22 years in Avondale and many of those happy years at Woodland.
Favorite Woodland Memory: My best memories are when ESL students started speaking English on their own, telling me about their families, and their life left behind.
Plans for Retirement: I have TONS of plans, traveling, possibly teaching English to newcomers that can't afford tutoring, visiting my Mom and sister in Poland, maybe learning another language, learning to knit things other than scarf and headbands, reading books.
Drop Off & Pick Up Lane
We would not want anyone to get a ticket. Just for background information, in the City of Troy, being on your phone while driving is considered distracted driving and can result in a ticket.
- 1st Offense $210.00
- 2nd Offense $310.00
Lost and Found is Overflowing!
Please Look For Your Missing Library Books at Home!
All library books are due back to school from now until the week of May 23rd. All books are due to the library no later than Friday, May 27th. Mrs. Kowalski will be sending home book fine notices on Tuesday, May 31st and they will need to be paid by Friday, June 3rd. You can pay the book fine by cash or check.
5th Grade Clap Out
There are some changes that we need to implement in order to make this happen.
- Weather permitting, we will be doing this outside on our walking path. Our TK-4th graders will be lined up along the path to cheer our 5th graders on while they walk.
- Family members will need to park in the front and walk around to the playground gate in the back. Ms. Ivy will check you in at a table.
- The Clap Out will last about 10 minutes. You may stay to take a few pictures with friends or by our Woodland sign.
- We will need families to leave the playground and parking lot by 11:10am to avoid dismissal lines that may block you in. Families may choose to take their 5th grader home at this time (or out for ice cream!) by signing them out with Ms. Ivy at the playground gate.
We look forward to celebrating with you!
