Thornhill Elementary PFC Newsletter
Volume 25, Issue 10, November 3, 2017
From The PFC Co-Presidents
It looks like Fall has finally arrived here in Oakland bringing those crisp mornings and beautiful sunny afternoons. We hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween!
It was great to see so many students and their families participating in the Trek-a-Thon on Saturday. Many many thanks to chairs, Vinay and Kelsey Nariani, along with Christine Pereira, VP of Fundraising, for all their hard work to make a fun and athletic day for our community. Many thanks also go out to the parents and teachers that volunteered their time that day...And to all who donated money for our school. We’re close to our fundraising goal of $25,000, so please keep those donations coming!
Please join us for our next PFC Board meeting on Tuesday, November 14 at 6pm in the school library. All parents/guardians are welcome to attend. Please RSVP if you need childcare (on Konstella calendar).
Don’t forget that daylight saving time ends this weekend. Lucky us, we get an extra hour of sleep Sunday morning!

TK and Kindergarten Tours
The first of four upcoming TK and Kindergarten tours will be next Wednesday, Nov. 8.
We need six parents to help each day from 8:45-10:30 a.m. However, if you can't stay for the tour but can help with coffee/goodies set-up, that would be helpful as it is just 20 to 30 minutes right around morning drop-off. Sign up here!
Thornhill Clean Sweep--Nov. 18
Well, whether you said yes, or no to any of the above...Thornhill’s Fall Sweep is for you!
The Sweep will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9am-12pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to help get our campus cleaned up and will also be a hands-on chance to learn more about the best waste sorting practices. If you haven’t yet signed up to participate in the Fall Sweep for any amount of time, please do!
We had a slightly scary (and mostly fun) few weeks celebrating Halloween in the library. Along with old favorite stories like The Hallo-wiener, The Tailypo, and The Widow’s Broom, we’ve added a few new stories that all came from your generous donations! The Fun Book of Scary Stuff and Herbert’s First Halloween were new stories that the students loved!
Thank you to James Yokomizo and family for donating I’m Here.
If you want to donate a book to the library, have a look at the Thornhill Library Amazon Wish List. If you donate directly from the Amazon Wish List, make sure to add a gift note with your student’s name included. Thank you again to all of our donors.
