Weekly Updates May 5, 2019
Happy Sunday Pirates!
Can you believe that it is already May? Thank you for another great week at SBHS. Last week included the end of softball and baseball seasons. Both teams did an outstanding job representing our school community. Track had a strong performance at conference and several students will compete this week at regionals. Soccer had victories over Havelock and Croatan and will start their play-off run this week.
Our Pirates continue to make their mark throughout our community, state and nation. A special congratulations this week goes to Martha Kelley and our SAVE Club. This club won national recognition by the Sandy Hook Promise organization for their Say Something Week activities. Daniel Bright and his masonry team took 1st and 2nd place in the top trowel contest with Jacob Jones scoring 1st place in the lineburner. The team brought home $2400 in cash prizes! Congratulations also to Kathryn Sears who was selected to serve on the National Student 2 Student Advisory Council by the Military Child Coalition.
This week in the boro' will include Staff Appreciation Week, the National Technical Honor Society Induction on Monday, golf and track regionals and soccer playoffs. We hope that you will take the time to express your appreciation for our staff this week.
Please mark your calendars for our step-up night on Monday, May 13, 2019. Parents of rising 10th, 11th and 12th grade students are invited to join us to learn about expectations for next year. We will also kick off AP exams on Tuesday, May 14, 2019.
We will also be focusing this month on generating enough revenue to replace the irrigation system on the football field this summer. Our system is over 30 years old and needs to be replaced at a staggering cost of $29,000. We are looking for business or family sponsors who are willing to make a tax deductible donation of $1,000. Sponsors will be highlighted at halftime during our home football games this fall, their names will be listed on a plaque on the field house and they will additionally receive a 2019/2020 free pass to all home athletic events. Please contact Dr. Gross at helen.gross@onslow.k12.nc.us or at (910) 326-4300 if you are willing to assist.
