EMS/ELA STAFF NEWS
8/26-8/30
PLC Work...
CCR
1. Your gradebook for CCR should be set to the pass/fail setting as the "Grading Curve."
2. Create one assignment for the quarter and call it Quarter 1.
3. The Quarter 1 assignment is worth 100 points.
4. Beginning this week, assign each student a 100 for this single grade.
5. Students can lose daily points as follows:
-1 for a tardy
-2 for a missing ID (student must take pass to the office for an orange sticker)
-2 off task behavior (that impedes completion of daily classwork)
6. We recommend a class roster on a clipboard where you can easily and quickly log point loss.
7. At the end of each week, manually adjust each student's grade to reflect the total loss of points for that week.
Along the lines of CCR, be sure to look over the Safe2Tell lesson for Thursday 8/29 prior to class...let us know if you need clarity.
Hot Topics...
Please remember to post a sign on your door (and then lock it) if you take your class out of your room. When parents come to pick up their children unexpectedly, it is essential that we know where to find you.
Headphones... Please remember that at no time should students have headphones out/on in class. Feel free to use a chat to request pick up of headphones if they are visible in class.
A Unified Front... This week we are seeing amazing progress with student IDs and cell phones. Thank you so much for your caring consistency in supporting these very important policies. If a student comes to your room without a visible ID above the waist on their body, please send them to the office with a pass to get an orange sticker.
Blocked Game Websites...Please be sure that you have updated the blocked game websites in GoGuardian as this will be a tremendous help in keeping your students on task on their chromebooks in your classroom. Please refer to the email that Lance Lammers sent last week which includes a comprehensive list of the current favorites (THANKS LANCE!!!)
New this year... In an effort to provide safety and communication during lunch time, please use a pass in order for a student to have permission to come to your room during lunch. The student should bring a handwritten official blue pass to an administrator at lunch and will then be allowed to leave the supervised areas to come to your class. This will minimize hallway wandering and allow us to know where kiddos are if a parent comes to pick them up.
Pirate Booty...Thursdays during CCR. Please follow the below schedule when dismissing students to the Booty. Students must have at least 5 signatures on their CREW card in order to visit the store. An easy way to remember to sign CREW Cards is to ask your students to put them our on their desk at the beginning of each class. Remember that this is a great way to encourage/celebrate positive CREW behavior.

If you need immediate classroom support (such as student removal, cell pick up , etc.) please use chat. Administration and security can be reached immediately. Team Captain's Awards
1. When you give a student a Captain's Award, please be sure to fill out the form, give one duplicate to the students and call home to share the good news.
2. Then, bring your copy of all completed Captain's Awards to your weekly CREW meeting so that you can share out during GLOWS.
3. The last CREW meeting of the month (this coming Wednesday), each CREW will pick one exemplar Captain's Award to be celebrated at our Captain's Assembly at the end of the month (last Friday 5th period).
4. By the end of the day of the Wednesday prior to the assembly, please turn your copy of the Captain's Award team winner to Trish.
5. Electives teachers- don't forget that you are a team too!!!
The Captain's Assembly
Please remember to:
1. Communicate that your class is to stay with you at all times going, during, and coming from the assembly.
2. Explicitly reiterate your expectations for how students travel as a class in the hall.
3. Ask students to leave all backpacks in the class and lock the door when you leave.
4. Enter the auditorium and sit together as a class; please strategically sit so that you can supervise your kiddos. Many teachers have found it helpful to have their class sit only using half of a row (but taking up more rows) so that teacher supervision is easier.
5. Classes will be verbally dismissed by administration from the assembly and walk together back to the classroom.
