PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

It truly has been wonderful to see volunteers once again support the work of learning in our school. Volunteers have been busy in our production areas creating the teaching materials for our teachers and bringing back much-loved activities like Art Literacy and OBOB. No matter what your level of contribution, your time is always much, much appreciated.

We especially want to thank our wonderful PTC board; they are Rock Stars that supported Rock Creek students and staff through these couple of crazy years.

It has been a tradition to have a volunteer dessert for our volunteers to say thank you for all of your support. While we cannot have a volunteer dessert this year due to Covid protocols, we do want to say thank you and let you know how much we appreciate you!

We have grown so much in ways seen and unseen over these past two years. The thing we are most proud of is our teamwork and collaboration together. When we look back years from now about this time, one memory will definitely remain: we made it through together because we were together. And for that, we thank you!

With much appreciation

Tiffany

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION TODAY 6-7 PM

Kindergarten is a big first step in your child’s school experience. We want that beginning to be as successful and enjoyable as possible. Kindergarten Orientation is an opportunity for your child to become acquainted with our kindergarten classrooms and teachers. It is also a time for parents to receive information about Rock Creek School and our Kindergarten program. You and your incoming kindergarten child (sorry, no siblings due to space limitations) are invited to Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, April 21, 2022, from 6:00 - 7:00 pm in the primary building at Rock Creek School.

Parents and incoming kindergartners will check in at the first door of the primary building (building by the gate with the planets and rocket). There will be informational tables set up in the middle common areas. Parents and the incoming kindergartener will get to rotate thru the three kindergarten classrooms, working on an activity together and meeting the teachers.

We are looking forward to meeting you and your child on April 21st. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call us at (503) 356-2450 or drop by the school. If you know of other families with kindergarten age students, please have them contact us right away so we can invite them to the orientation.

It is helpful if your student is registered before Kindergarten Orientation. Children need to be 5 years of age by Sept. 1, 2022, to be eligible for Kindergarten next school year. Parents can register online here: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/enrollment/kindergarten

ARRIVE ON TIME-READY TO LEARN

Make arriving to school on time a priority. Students should arrive at school between 8:15 (if eating breakfast) and 8:25 am and be in their classroom ready to learn by 8:30 am. Students who arrive late disrupt the entire class and miss important information teachers share about the plans for the day. Children who exhibit chronic lateness often struggle with organization in general. They may find it hard to keep track of personal items or forget to turn in homework. Helping them establish the habit of timeliness tends to have a positive ripple effect to other areas of life.

Help your child have a good start to their day by making sure they arrive to school on time!

SCHOOL BREAKFAST

Breakfast is available for students at 8:15 am. Students need to finish their grab and go breakfast by 8:28 am so that they can be in their classrooms to begin the day at 8:30 am. If a student arrives after 8:20 or If a student does not finish their breakfast they may save it for snack time.

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL

Walking and Rolling is Good for the Earth!

April is the month we celebrate Earth Day and one way you can help our planet and combat climate change is to replace car trips with active ones! 2 miles of driving = 1.6 lbs of carbon emissions. Think about local car trips that your family takes often. Maybe it is a trip to the park or a friend’s house. Map your route and try walking or biking instead. We often think places are farther than they seem. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your location and be amazed at what your body can do for you!

CHANGE OF AFTER SCHOOL PLANS

Please be sure that your child knows what they are doing after school, before they leave in the morning. If there is a change to their normal dismissal plans, please send a note, email or ParentSquare message the teacher. If the teacher is not notified of the change by a parent, students will be sent home per their normal plan. We ask that phone calls with change of plans be limited to emergencies only. Urgent messages should not be left on teacher voice mails during the school day. We cannot guarantee that last minute messages will be delivered before the end of the day. Thanks for helping us limit classroom disruptions.

PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE

If you call the school and don't get an answer, please leave a message. We often have only one person in the office answering calls, the doorbell and escorting kids to and from class and may not always be able to answer right away. We are unable to answer the door or phone between 3:00 -3:10 pm. Your call is important to us and we will call back as soon as we can.

Thanks for your understanding!

CAR/WALKER ARRIVAL TIME 8:20 AM- CLASSROOM DOORS LOCK AT 8:30 AM

For the safety of our students, students that are parent drop off, walkers and bike riders are not to arrive before 8:20 am (8:15 am if eating breakfast). Bus riders arrive at 8:15 am because the school buses need to leave earlier to pick up middle school students. Classroom doors do not open until 8:20 am. We do not have space or the supervision for all students to safely line up outside the doors until 8:20 am.

Classroom doors shut and lock at 8:30 am. If your child is not in the classroom by 8:30 am, please walk them to the main front doors and ring the doorbell. Staff will escort them to class.
