Final Week of Semester One Update
We have reached the mid-point of this year's journey.
Grading Week
This is a big week for Glendale and district-wide as the first report cards are being created. Friday will be an important day as teachers finalize grades and navigate the Infinite Campus gradebook. Support will be available from Ben Tressel on site from 7:30-11:30 a.m. and Lynn Wieczorek (x60062) at the DSC. If you have questions or need support with any part of this process, please let me know. I will be available throughout this afternoon and tomorrow morning. Report cards will be sent home Thursday, February 4th. An email with specific information was sent out for your information.
Staff Meeting Added: Growth and Enrollment Information
We will hold an important meeting on February 12th from 8:10-8:30 in the media center. The purpose of the meeting will be to provide updates on the next steps and latest news on the district plans to address growth in the district. Please add this to your calendars.
For more information on the Information Sessions being held see the district page at: http://www.priorlake-savage.k12.mn.us/about-us/referendum/index.aspx.
Adobe Voice Projects - Grade 4
Students in Ms. Ginder's class were creating online recording of their persuasive writing projects. The students posted on Schoology to share.
Paper Plate Dance
Mrs. Waldron and Mrs. Gratz recreated the paper plate dance activity from Monday's retreat. The students got some movement!
3D Printing Challenge
Mrs. Tinguely's media class was taking an opportunity to design a 3D printable object using www.tinkercad.com. The students were creative and, along with Ms. Quinn, are on track to create something that could be taken to the printing phase. The media center is creating new opportunities this year!
Activities and Hands-on Projects Highlights of PTC Event
The ESTEM Night last Friday was a huge success with families bringing their children to create and design with The Works. Sue Mohn demonstrated different types of technology by making ice cubes from huge cubes of ice. Mathnasium offered math games and King Tec and ICE high school robotics groups put on a fun display of their robot creations. In the media center, Ben Tressel had Makerspace digital activities including the Osmos, Ozobots and Spheros. Students were highly engaged and amazed by what they could do and see!

I Love to Read
Thank you to the I Love to Read committee for organizing activities for the month of February. Heather Monserud, Karla Schutz, Megan Kettler, Lia Quinn and Becky Gordon have been working hard to plan for a successful month highlighted by the I Love to Read Night on February 18th. Melanie will have a parent night in conjunction with the I Love to Read Night on the 18th for Intervention students as well. Thank you in advance for supporting the different activities and promoting it within your classroom!
Glendale Summer School Dates Set
Glendale is set to be a host site for Kids Company and summer school. More information will be coming in March and April for student enrollment. The program will run from July 11-August 11, Monday-Thursday mornings. If you are interested in working with this program please send an email or talk with me.
Valentine's Day Party February 12th
The Leadership Team supported the continuation of the All School Valentine's Party format for 2016. Parents Emily Elg and Kim Evenson will be the co-chairs of this event. With the changes in background check requirements, we will need to make a slight adjustment by having teachers sign-up for specific activity areas for 30 minutes of the celebration. The other 30 minutes will be free for teachers to take photos or move to different areas. Roxanne will provide information about supporting this event and the parent volunteer sign-up will be sent soon.
One to One iPad Trials
Technology integrationists are connecting with teachers to pilot 1:1 iPad experiences for a week at a time. iPads are brought into the classroom so students have continuous access to one device allowing more seamless access to apps and tools. If you are interested, contact Ben or look for his sign up when it is sent out. Tech Team members are starting out the process this week and throughout the next few weeks.
ESTEM Helpers
A station was set up with the Osmos for students to try a challenge with tangrams and other tools. The Osmos are new to the Makerspace and can be checked out for a station or as part of a maker time.
Let it Be
The Glendale Singers took the challenge to share a Beatles' medley during the Youth Frontiers Honor Retreat. The judges, Metzger, Lacher and Sillman, were mixed on their reviews of the singing, but it was entertaining! The retreat was a positive way to connect and the Retreat Leaders, Josh and Jim, were impressed with the supportive staff. They noted: "What a great staff. They have a lot of fun together!"
Richardson Kids Love Glendale
The youngest Richardson kids came to ESTEM Night and think Glendale is a cool school. "No fair! You guys have an elevator!" So there's that... They said they were impressed with the teachers' classrooms and the fun activities at the school, too!
