Polser Principal Points
Polser STEM Academy - August 3rd - August 7th, 2020
What's Happening this Week?
Polser Families,
We are looking forward to serving your students this year and know that we will soon be back in person. We are disappointed in the change to our learning plans but know this school year is going to be GREAT! Together, we will get through all of this and I am here to support your family in any way possible. I wanted to share some important information regarding the start of school and our learning paths. Please know our students' and teachers' safety are most important during these unprecedented times.
Our registrar is working very hard to register all of our new students. If you need assistance, please email Jennifer Boling at bolingj@lisd.net or by phone, 469-713-5978. She is able to assist parents in selecting the learning plan option for each of their students or any registration questions you might have.
Virtual and Remote Learning will begin on Wednesday, August 19th. Students who selected in person learning will now be remote until they are able to return to the building on Tuesday, September 8th. Both learning plans will provide a full school day of learning both synchronous and asynchronous with Polser teachers who will provide support as a virtual or remote teacher in each grade level. Remember that learning plans may be changed 2 weeks before the August 19th start date; the deadline is August 5th.
The teachers will return on Wednesday and we will review all safety protocols while we are on level orange. Teachers will be socially distancing desks and putting up dividers to keep every child in the classroom safe upon their return on September 8th. PPE equipment and cleaning supplies will be provided to every teacher. We will have planned grade level restroom breaks throughout the day. Sanitizing stations will be setup in the classrooms as well as around the building. We have purchased gators for all students and teachers. Face coverings will be required for everyone in common areas, transitions, and during small groups. 2 classrooms will be allowed in the cafeteria and at recess. Classrooms will rotate eating in their classroom and the cafeteria with only two at a time, socially distanced. We have purchased drawstring supply bags for every student for individual supplies and workbooks. No lockers will be used in grades K-5. Only disposable water bottles are allowed this year. Students will not be allowed to refill their water bottles or use the drinking fountains. Lunch bags/boxes will not be placed in a community bin.
While on level orange, parents will not be allowed to enter the building for lunch or events, drop off any outside lunches, or birthday treats. No food deliveries will be allowed. Parents and teachers will be required to monitor symptoms and temperature check daily. The district has developed a protocol for anyone with symptoms for COVID 19. We have established a quarantine area. Parents will be notified in writing if anyone on our campus tests positive for COVID 19 following confidentiality guidelines. Please know we appreciate your support and cooperation during our level orange protocols.
The district will use Canvas and WebEx during remote learning. Please review WebEx etiquette with your child. I have also provided parent instructions for Canvas to support your child during their remote learning. Students will be required to attend remote and virtual classes every day and attendance will be taken. Students will required to complete 4 hours of instruction daily. The district will soon provide information to those of you that requested a device and how that will be deployed before the 19th.
I will provide grade level virtual orientations the week of August 10th to review safety protocols, learning plans, grading, attendance, meet our virtual and remote teachers, review learning schedules, and answer any questions you might have.
For those of you that ordered Spring Pictures, Wrap Pack Supplies, and or Yearbooks, parents are allowed to drive through the front and pickup on Wednesday, August 12th and Thursday, August 13th from 1:00 p.m. - 3:25 p.m. Extra yearbooks will be on hand to sell for $25 and PTA will sell extra grade level wrap packs if needed. We ask that you wear masks to keep our staff safe. Please do not enter the building for any reason. Please know we apologize for the delay in returning these items however many deliveries were delayed due to COVID.
We know this is an unusual start to our school year however we know we will get through it together as a Polser family. We are excited to see all of our students virtually or remotely on August 19th and cannot wait until everyone returns to our building. Please know I am here to answer any questions you might have!
Thanks for all you do,
Mrs. Phelps
