The Wheatley School Principal
During the meeting, the Board also accepted the resignation of Dr. Sean Feeney as principal of The Wheatley School. On Tuesday, Dr. Feeney was appointed Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment in the Port Washington School District beginning July 1, 2022.
Dr. Feeney has served the East Williston School District as principal of the Wheatley School for 14 years, touching the lives of so many students, families and staff in important and meaningful ways over those many years. We are excited for Dr. Feeney as he moves on to this next step of his professional career.
The District has begun the search for a new high school principal for the coming school year and we will continue to keep you informed.
Real World Learning Experience- Mali Project
Under the guidance of French teacher Mr. Jean-François Henley, the Wheatley School French club has established a connection with the Baobab Learning Center in Mali. Through this connection, students have been exchanging emails with one another for the past two school years. This connection has provided our students with real world application of language skills and increased cultural and global awareness. It has also provided a meaningful charitable cause for the French club. This school year, the French club will make a donation to the Baobab Learning Center to assist them with some of their initiatives which are: to install a computer lab, promote English language learning, to promote the sport cricket for the students as well as to provide potable water to their surrounding villages. Featured here are some of the students from the Baobab Learning Center reading their letters in their classes.

Autism Awareness/Acceptance Shirt Fundraiser
April is Autism Awareness Awareness/Acceptance month. During this time The Wheatley School will be engaging in their annual fundraiser. Ms. Laurino’s class has designed shirts with Spectrum Designs and created a pop-up store to order.
Please consider participating in the shirt sale. All proceeds from each shirt sold will go towards the Nassau/Suffolk Services for Autism (NSSA). There are a few options on the site for color and style. All shirts will be shipped directly to the address you provide. We will not have shirts available in the school. Consider combining orders to save on shipping costs. The link is active now through midnight on Monday, April 11th. This is a short window to order so hurry before the store closes!
