Team Burris Weekly Update
June 3, 2021
Dear Families,
We have made it to the FINAL newsletter for this school year! Can you believe it?! As I stated last week this has simultaneously been both the longest and the quickest school year ever! We still have a few things to wrap up in our learning, but the bulk of our workload is behind us. You will see LOTS of graded project information in this week's Friday folder including our final fluency check for the year, completed and graded owl writing projects, a rubric for your child's graded diorama, a final math assessment and more! Phew!
I am SO very proud of these kids and their perseverance this year. We've gone though many challenges together from initial struggles with on-line learning, to being split in two classes as we did the half and half model, and finally having all of us together. We have had to adapt, change the way we did things, and even miss out on a few traditions we usually have. That said, we also got to do some fun things, just a little differently than normal. This group will forever hold a special place in my heart and I was lucky to be their teacher this year. I can't wait to see what the future holds for each and every one of them. Please keep in touch!
I wish you a summer full of all the things that bring joy to your family. As our world continues to recover from this pandemic, I hope you will be able to see family you may not have been able to visit previously, or enjoy a "long lost" activity you have been missing. My family and I plan to do LOTS of camping, traveling and quality time together. I can't wait!

Team Spotlight
We enjoyed getting to know Keegan this week in our Team Spotlight. Here is a quote he picked from a favorite song Believer by Imagine Dragons: "Speaking my lesson from the brain, seeing the beauty through the pain." Thank you Keegan!
And that is a wrap on our Team Spotlight turns!

Upcoming Dates to Be Aware Of
Monday, June 7th - Early Release(2:10 p.m.)
June 10 - LAST day of school!
Highlights for our Learning
Reading: We continued reading our chapter book called 8 Class Pets + 1 dog + 1 squirrel = Chaos. We will continue to read this and work on answering questions after we read. We will also make an iMovie to go along with this story when we are done reading.
Writing: We edited, revised and wrote final copies of our final owl fact paragraphs. You should be proud of your child's 4 paragraph essay about their owl. This is a lot of research and writing for 2nd graders. Graded writing is in Friday folders.
Math: We worked on a review packet for all of the math skills we have learned this year.
Tool Time: We had our FINAL Tool Time week of the year!
Project Based Learning (PBL): During PBL, we finished our owl dioramas and did a presentation about them. We posted these on our Seesaw blog , so be sure to check them out. I am so pleased with the quality of work students did!
