- Webinar: US - China Relations Through A Superheroic Lens. Tuesday, March 23rd. 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM CST. Virtual event. Free. Click to register. Hosted by Dr. Dennis M. Kratz, Founding Director of the Center for Asian Studies, this webinar will explore the origins of the concept of heroism in Greek antiquity and trace its impact on American and Chinese culture, business and politics. Dr. Dennis M. Kratz is Ignacy and Celina Rockover Professor of Humanities and Senior Associate Provost at the University of Texas at Dallas. He served as Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities from 1997-2019. His scholarship and teaching focuses on the reception and transformation of ideas, concepts and practices inherited from Greek and Roman Antiquity. To learn more about Dr. Dennis Kratz.
- Asian Culture Forum: Chinese Muslims and the Second Generation Ethnic Policy Moment. Saturday, March 27th. 4:00PM CST. Virtual event. Free. Click to register. The forum presenter Dr. Kevin Caffrey is Director of the University of North Texas Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program. He is an expert in Chinese Muslim people and their interlocutors; with particular emphasis on the stigma, rumor, and stereotyping of the Hui as a “dangerous” people. He has written many articles on Chinese ethno-religious politics, fear, stigma/rumor, mass sport, and soft power. His research interests covers China and Highland Southeast Asia, but also increasingly includes the topically similar but ethnographically distant American gun culture. Chang-rae Lee won the Dayton Literary Peace Prize and is a Pulitzer Prize finalist. His My Year Abroad details the transformation of a young man under the tutelage of a charismatic benefactor. Lois Kim is Executive Director of Texas Book Festival.

Bing Xie
Bing Xie is a Senior Global Business Executive with a successful track record in digital transformation, global revenue growth strategy, P&L management, sales skills and operational excellence/return on investment. He is valued for his international perspective and understanding of cultural differences in growing global businesses, as he has lived and worked in China, Italy, the U.S. and Canada. Bing has extensive Board experience and is an angel investor in high-tech sector. Before his retirement at the end of 2020, he was Senior Vice President/Executive Officer for Texas Instruments Inc. (TI), overseeing global Sales and Application teams and $14+ billion in sales revenue. He had been President/General Manager, TI Greater China ( China, Taiwan and Hong Kong). Earlier in his career, Bing held positions of increasing responsibility with 3Com Corp., Bay Networks and Hewlett-Packard.
