Fourth Grade Language Arts, Social Studies
Social Studies: Students are enjoying their study of Native Americans. We have three tribes left to become familiar with, and then our Native American Museum project will begin!
Fourth Grade Math, Science
Fourth grade will be finishing our division on Friday with a test. They will be given a study guide Wednesday and we will review it together on Thursday. We will begin the wonderful, yet lengthy, Fraction unit next week. In this unit, we cover many different topics such as fraction models, factors and multiples, equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, adding and subtracting like and unlike denominators, multiplying fractions, and mixed numbers!
Please make sure students are working on Math homework every night (Mon-Thurs). It is very important for them to go home and continue to practice the skill that we worked on in class. Students should also be practicing Math facts on Xtramath.com for at least 5 minutes at a time. October calendars will be due November 1st.
Science: We are currently working in our Weather unit. We are working on many different topics like the water cycle, types of clouds, different types of storms, and much more. The students will be given a weather log every Monday for the next few weeks, and they will have to fill in the daily weather each night. They will be due each Friday. In a couple of weeks, students will begin a weather power point project at school. They will complete most of it at school in their groups. I will be sending home more information about the details in a couple of weeks. At the end of our unit, I will be sending home a study guide to prepare students for the test.Fifth Grade Language Arts, Social Studies
Social Studies: Fifth graders are amidst their study of Westward Expansion; this unit has covered Daniel Boone and the Wilderness Road, Lewis and Clark and their explorations of the Louisiana Purchase, emigrants and the Oregon Trail, and the struggle between the Navajo and Cherokee Native Americans and settlers. Fifth graders have an open-note quiz covering these topics Friday. We plan to begin the Civil War in November.

Science: We are working on our Classification unit currently. We have been working on the six kingdoms, how animals are classified, and vertebrates and invertebrates. In the next week or two, students will begin an in-class project where they will be writing and illustrating a children's book on an animal of their choice. We will do majority of the work in class. At the end of our unit, I will send home a study guide for the test.
