Adverse Childhood Experiences

(ACE) The Consequences and Lingering Effects

What is an adverse childhood experience?

This lifestyle includes when a child is raised in a household where they are neglected repeatedly or abused either emotionally, sexually, or physically. It can also include living with only one or no parent. Some extreme conditions include living with a drug/alcohol abuser or a depressed person.

The Lingering Effects

How can this affect a child?

ACE can put children at a greater risk for many serious problems later on in life. Some of these problems include drug&alcohol use, STDs, depression, pregnancy at a young age, and suicide. Also, adverse childhood experiences put children at a greater risk for disabilities, learning disorders, and early death.
