The Pirate Way
Hello Pirates!
Happy Friday! Today is the last day before we have a week off of school. We hope that you have a safe and restful week off. When we return it will be the last days of February! Please take this time to recharge and be ready to come back to school ready to charge through the remainder of the school year. We only have 118 days until the last day of school!
This week at OHS we inducted more than 50 new members to our National Honor Society, we had a No Hate Tour BMX bike assembly, Love on a Leash, our Health Academy did blood pressure checks on Valentine's Day, we hosted the Generational Black Pioneers Live Show in our PAC, and we also gave out 914 student awards: 529 Principal Honor Roll awards, 256 Honor Roll awards, and 129 Perfect Attendance awards for the Fall 2022 semester! We are so proud of all of our amazing Pirates!
At OHS we are actively getting ready for the remainder of this school year and our summer enrichment opportunities, but we are also preparing for the 2023-2024 school year. We are so excited for the upcoming school year and all of the opportunities it will provide our students.
Please remember that it is all of us together that make OHS what it is for all of our students. We welcome you to be an active participant in the activities and happenings on campus. If you have any suggestions please do not hesitate to reach out to any OHS staff member! We are a team working toward a common goal. Only when we all work together can we truly transform and increase the success of all of our OHS students!
Pirates you are a part of something big! You belong and will always belong in the Oceanside High School Pirate Community. What an amazing feeling to realize you belong to something bigger than the individual Pirate, but rather part of a 100 year plus Pirate Ship Community!

OHS Pirate Sports Update
Boys soccer scores OT upset
The No. 12-seeded Pirates upset the No. 5 Falcons, 2-1, on Diego Ruiz's golden goal just three minutes into overtime. OHS advances to the quarterfinals and travels to face No.1 San Diego at 5 p.m. Saturday.
After battling to a 1-1 tie through regulation, Oceanside wasted little time in the extra period. Yan Bautista squeezed the ball through to Hassan Diaz, who threaded a crossing pass to Ruiz who banged the ball into the net and started the celebration that was three years in the making.
Lincoln Newcomer gave the Pirates an early 1-0 lead on an assist from Eric Walker. The Falcons tied it a 1-1 just before halftime. The sides battled each other through a scoreless second half and into overtime before Diaz end it.
Girls basketball presses its way to quarterfinals
From the start, it was obvious what strategy the Oceanside girls basketball team was going to use against Helix Wednesday night. The No. 8 Highlanders had a distinct size and strength advantage against the No. 9 Pirates in the first round of the CIF Division 2 playoffs. Left with little choices, OHS had to make it a full-court contest using its variety of pressure schemes to tire out Helix. Objective achieved.
Oceanside raced out to a 25-12 halftime lead and never looked back pushing the lead to nearly 30 en route to a 54-38 victory. The Pirates will travel to No. 1-seeded Olympian Saturday. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
Nevaeh Mageo led OHS with 23 points. Martina Griffin added 20 points. Alivia Gillespie had six points, which improves Oceansides record to 19-6.
