Week of March 4th
Kid's Heart Challenge
Students in grades K-6 have the opportunity to participate in “Kid’s Heart Challenge”” This is a statewide program sponsored by the American Heart Association and recognized by the Shawnee Mission School District. This event is held to fight heart disease and promote cardiovascular fitness. Jump rope and basketball fitness will be featured along with other movement activities.
The Rising Star “Kid’s Heart Challenge” will be held the week of March 25th – 28th during your child’s Physical Education class.
All money collected will go directly to The American Heart Association. All donations must be turned in to Mr. Haskell no later than Wednesday, April 10th. Refer to the packet for gifts that will be given for designated amounts raised. Make checks payable to the American Heart Association. Online donations are also available.
Students were given “Kid’s Heart Challenge” packets during Physical Education class.
One name will be drawn from all the participants and that student will receive a pizza party with two friends and Mr. Haskell!
Students do not have to know how to jump rope or play basketball in order to participate. Other activities will be offered to accommodate various ages and abilities. Students are not under any pressure to perform, but to simply exercise at their own pace and have fun.
**New Immunization Requirements**
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued new vaccination requirements for the 2019-2020 school year. Read here about the new requirements that affect Kindergarten, 1st grade, 7th grade, and 11th grade students.
Please push this information out to your families in multiple ways - email, newsletter, website, etc.; this is a big change, so it's essential to start getting the word out as soon and as often as we can. The Communications department will be sending out several communications on this as well.
A full listing of immunization requirements for the 2019-2020 school year can be found here:
Secretaries will be advised to print this to use in your enrollment packets. The immunization form, however, has yet to be updated by KDHE, so we will need to continue to use the one that we have for the time being (it may or may not be updated in time to use it for Kindergarten Round-Up).
Please let Shelby Rebeck know if you have any questions.
