Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of February 19, 2023
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Greetings,
Even though it was a short week, there was lots happening at EHTHS.
The Science League, led by Mr. Dannenhauer, continues to lead our students in competition between schools in selected science areas of study. The students make up teams from each school and team scores, which is the sum of top 2 student scores, are cumulative from January through April. Competition within each testing area is extremely keen. By the end of the season there can be as little as one question separating first place from second place. Currently EHT is in first place. Keep up the good work!!
For the past 7 years, Stockton has invited the local high schools to participate in a discussion centered around themes consistent with Dr. King's teachings. EHTHS has had the privilege of attending for the past three years. On Thursday, Mr. Bell brought his African American Studies classes to the event. Tasfia Ahmad was the panelist who represented EHTHS. The discussions are 100% student-led, but discussions are facilitated by Stockton professors. Mr. Bell said, “Tasfia rocked” in her representation of our school.
One of the greatest lessons we can provide for our students is providing real world experiences. This week, our CTE Department held their 7th Annual Business Discovery Day. The students were able to interact with Shamsiddin “Pop” Little, JD, Director of JD Admissions at Seton Hall University School of Law, Honorable Judge Podolnick of Atlantic and Cape May Counties, Eric Plyler, owner of Dry Island in Ocean City, and Christina Sciarretta, Realtor & CEO of Rockstar Real Estate & Media Group. Each guest speaker was able to provide the students with their story, inspirational words, and valuable lessons. As Christina Sciarretta told the students, “You must do what makes you happy.” Great advice!
The Academic Challenge Club hosted the annual Triathlon yesterday in the Upper Cafeteria after school. Over 20 teams participated from 10 other area schools. Questions were asked in the categories of History/Literature, Math/Science, and Sports/Pop Culture. While our two school teams did not place, the event was a great success and all in attendance seemed to enjoy themselves.
On the athletic front, the Boys and Girls Track Team competed at the Group 4 State Championships last Sunday. We would be remiss if we didn’t recognize the following athletes for their accomplishments. It certainly looks like our team is ready for spring competition!
Ahmad Fogg placed 3rd in the High Jump at 6’2”.
Ryan Taylor finished 12th in the 3200 with a time of 9:35.
Christopher Manzo placed 9th in the 400 with a time of 51.84.
Mike Simeon placed 11th in the shot put with a throw of 48-4”.
Kiki Schlemo placed 3rd in the 3200 with a PR of 11:06.06.
Speaking of track, a special congratulations goes to our 11th grader, Samantha Reed for receiving the Widener University High School Leadership Award (HSLA). Samantha was nominated by her track coach, Ms. Erika Vazquez. This award program is designed to recognize high school students in the region who have demonstrated leadership, stood up for what is right, and made a significant difference in their communities. If Samantha enrolls at Widener as an undergraduate student, Samantha will be invited to be part of their Apogee Scholars Leadership Program and will receive a $20,000 scholarship. Apogee Scholars receive four years of leadership programming, including a Widener Leadership Certificate. This speaks volumes about Samantha's character. Well deserved!!
This past weekend, the wrestlers participated in the District Tournament. The following athletes will move on to regions and states this weekend. Come on out and support our wrestlers this Friday and Saturday. Best of luck to all of our wrestlers!!
Region Qualifiers (Boys) @ EHTHS
1st Place winner Vincent Faldetta 138lbs
2nd Place winner Peter Steed 120lbs
2nd Place winner Tyler Thomas 113 Lbs
2nd Place winner Nicholas Faldetta 150 lbs
State Qualifier (Girls) @ Phillipsburg High School
3rd Place winner Kylie Wright 126lbs
Finally, there was also action on the courts by boys and girls basketball. The girls had a great win on Tuesday night at Toms River East with a score of 51 - 38 to win their first state playoff game since the 2011-2012 season. Unfortunately, their season came to an end after a valiant effort on Thursday night against Shawnee. After a win in the final seconds on Saturday against the Prep, the boys went on to beat Millville on Tuesday and ACIT on Thursday night. The Group 4 South Sectional Semifinals will be on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in the gym following wrestling regions against Cherry Hill East. Let’s get another “W” on Saturday night!
With so much happening this week, it is always exciting to report all of the opportunities our students get to experience. Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Carugno

Oksana comes to my Adaptive P.E class twice a week and helps with my Adaptive Students. The students absolutely love when she comes to class. CLIMATE AND CULTURE
#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
