Dear Parents and Carers,
What a great week we have had this week in school!
Year five made a real difference on Wednesday as part of their Young Leaders project as they refreshed the Peace Garden. They dug out so many weeds that they filled a huge bin, then they planted bulbs and plants and swept the area to make it tidy. Last week they spoke to every class to remind them what the Peace garden is for and they built bug hotels and created artwork to go in the garden. We are just waiting now for new decking to go down and waterproof cushions and it will be complete. Year Five then supported the cake sale after school that day by baking and donating cakes for sale with all of the profits going to cancer charities. Well done Year Five! It has been lovely to watch you develop into a great team this year.
It was fabulous to finally wave a class off on a trip out of school today as Year four went off to Murton Park to have a day as vikings. It has been such a long time since classes have been able to go out on trips so to hear how excited they were was just magical. Hopefully, other classes will be able to get out and about as soon as things start to return to how they were before covid.
Finally this week, we have three new school governors. Revd. Paulie takes up the role of ex officio governor due to their role as the incumbent vicar, Mrs Lara Thornton has been appointed by the MAT Trust board and Mrs Catherine Charlesworth takes up the role of Parent Governor. I am sure they will all do a fantastic job for the school and I look forward to working with them.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Karen Williams

World Book Day - Thursday 3rd March
It is the 25th anniversary of World Book Day on the 3rd March, and we are planning a great day full of all things literary. As part of our celebrations, children are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character. We particularly love the outfits that have been made from recycled things from around the home, so please don't think you need to spend money on a costume. We would also like children and their families to create a ‘book in a box’ celebrating their favourite story. This can be in a shoe box, cereal box, or even in a match box! If your child would like to make a ‘book in a box’ they need to bring it in on World Book Day, when we will display them in the hall for the whole school to see. Further information about the exciting things we will be doing, will be detailed in a newsletter nearer the time.

NYES Catering Competition
Brief
- We want to inspire primary and secondary pupils to get creative and design our new mascot based on what they would like to see from a catering mascot. Will they have powers, or be food related, or be a team with a leading mascot, or have sibling mascots (one for primary schools, one for secondary schools) – the pupils are the deciders in this one-off competition!
We’ve even enlisted the help of a 12-year old who previously attended one of our catered primary schools and loves superheroes as well as food – so we feel he will be a fantastic help in deciding the winner! He will be assisted by 2 of our in-house judges. We are all really looking forward to seeing all of the brilliant designs, and hearing about what the mascot designed means to the pupils, and the fun they have creating them.
The winner will see their mascot design come to life! This includes within our marketing from September 2022 and beyond.
How to enter
- Simply email your designed mascot (and it’s name) to: charlotte.firth@northyorks.gov.uk
Please include your pupil’s name, age, and details of the school they attend.
Deadline: 17:00 on Saturday 12th February 2022.
The winner will be announced on Wednesday 23rd February 2022.
Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date with the latest competition developments!
Maximum age to enter is 18.
The best of luck to all – time to get creative!
