Digital Learning Day- #130
Digital Learning Day is February 15th and I hope you get to celebrate it by having your students complete or create digitally.
What is Digital Learning Day?
Digital Learning Day has provided a powerful venue for education leaders to highlight great teaching practice and showcase innovative teachers, leaders, and instructional technology programs that are improving student outcomes. This grassroots effort blossomed into a massive nationwide celebration as teachers realized that Digital Learning Day is not about technology, itβs about learning.
Digital Learning is an instructional practice that effectively uses technology to strengthen a student's learning experience. It emphasizes high-quality instruction and provides access to challenging content, feedback through formative assessment, opportunities for learning anytime and anywhere, connecting with a global community, and individualized instruction to ensure all students reach their full potential to succeed.
What Can I Do for #DLDay?
ππ» Create a BreakoutEDU for your students to complete.
ππ» Have students collaborate on a Padlet.
ππ» Have students create an infographic on Canva.
ππ» Have students use Screencastify Submit to respond as a reflection.
ππ» As an educator, get with a colleague and plan out an end-of-the-year project that will use instructional technology.
ππ» As an educator, share your ideas (ideas, not students pictures) on social media by using the hashtag #DLDay #chooseMWISD
ππ» Have students create a product: Google Slides, podcast, Google Sites, etc.

What's Been Happening in the Classroom
In Mrs. Dodson's 3rd Grade class, students learned how to write a short-constructed response while using Padlet for whole group discussion.
After students submitted all their responses, Mrs. Dodson released them one at a time and the whole class was in conversation on why and what score to give the SCR. Mrs. Dodson color coded the submission with what the class consensus was for its score- 0=red, 1=yellow, and 2=green (stoplight).
Students had a blast doing this and all felt comfortable because each submission was anonymous. Mrs. Dodson also snuck a submission in without any students knowing.
Just think about that dialogue! What a great activity!
