History of the Fad Diet
The diet has been proven to be extremely beneficial and healthy when used in a moderate manner. The Mediterranean diet was used after Ancel Key´s Seven Countries study was used for soldiers during a starvation study in WW2. He was supposed to study the affects of starvation and the depletion it does on the body and his job was to determine food ration proportions needed to keep soldiers healthy during wartime. He found after surveying the survivors after war deprived of their rations, heart attacks decreased significantly. The main culprit was high consumption of red meats. It was shown that Japanese and Greek men having one of the lowest rates of Cardiovascular disease with the island of Crete having the lowest
What is the Mediterranean Diet
Why it is/isn´t healthy
Unhealthy: The diet can be unhealthy at times with high intakes of olive oil and the high calorie foods of dairies within the diet. Anyone wishing to partake in this diet needs to consult their doctor because allergens to seeds, nuts, fish, etc. can prove fatal.
