We have switched for math now and some students may not be on my math schedule. They may still be finishing Unit 5 or just starting Unit 6. I have the faster paced students so we are still working through Unit 6-Division. We will be testing this week and starting Unit 7. You may want to have a conversation with your child about what Unit they are currently working on with his or her teacher.
Please make sure your child is practicing their math facts at home. Addition 0-12, Subtraction 0-12, and Multiplication 0-12. I suggest using Flashcards, Flash to Pass (App.), or print free pages online. We give the students 50 problems to complete in 3 minutes. If you need to know what your child is working on, send me an email.
We will be starting Unit 2 Week 2
Comprehension Strategy: Reread
Comprehension Skill: Author's Point of View
Genre: Expository Text
Vocabulary Strategy: Prefixes
We are switching for reading starting this week. The difference between switching for reading and math is that reading will stay at the same pace. If your child has been in Miss Twyman's class for reading, that will not change.
We will be working on writing a constructed response. Students will learn how to respond to an extended response by restating the question, answering the question, and using evidence from the story. This will be a long process to get the students to master this concept. My goal is to have them prepared by the time they take the open-ended ISTEP in March. We will be responding and practicing in our Response Journal.
Our next unit of study will be Informational Writing (Nonfiction).
Math and Reading Homework due Friday!
Report Cards will be completed by Friday, October 23rd.
