News from Mrs. Mankin
Dear Bulldog Families,
We recently had several teachers attend a Fishers High School student-led CATS (Creating Action Through Service) workshop regarding service learning. Prior to this, we as a staff collaborated around the topic of service as we feel that it is an essential understanding for students to develop as they progress through school. We are defining service in simple terms – helping others in our community. This is such a nice fit with one of our building-wide FISH expectations. The expectation of Make Their Day means just that; help others. Our classrooms will be weaving some component of service into the winter party, whether it is launching/celebrating a bigger project or making/doing something for others. Our staff discussed that service can come in many forms, big and small.
One small thing we can do for others that makes a BIG difference is to use kind word and show gratitude. We have started a Positive Energy Chain (housed in our Discovery Area/library) to show how thankful we are for others. Students can simply write down something or someone they are thankful for on a strip of paper and then staple it to our chain. Our chain is growing…please talk to your child about what he/she may be able to add to the chain. There is SO MUCH to be thankful for!
I am thankful for our amazing, curious students and their families! I am also thankful for each and every important member of our Bulldog staff. Every day I see amazing connections, learning, and service within our hallways and classroom. Our HSE Foundation will be kicking off Giving Tuesday the week we return from Thanksgiving break. Making a donation on Giving Tuesday is one way you can show gratitude for our amazing teaching and learning community.
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

Giving Tuesday 2019
Giving Tuesday is a global movement to celebrate generosity and how each of us holds the power to make a difference in our local community. You know first-hand how the incredible staff and faculty here at NBE are, and how they work hard to champion every student every day. Help us recognize the outstanding members of our team who are making a difference for your student. Your investment will have a lasting impact on our school’s students and teachers through innovative projects and classroom experiences.
When you donate, we hope you use the “unselfie” sign on the back to honor a teacher, coach, counselor, bus driver, volunteer, or special person in the HSE Family. Your simple, heartfelt message will help HSE gratitude go viral this holiday season. And, every donation made on #GivingTuesday will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Rise to the Challenge donors! After you celebrate Thanksgiving and find deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we hope you will join us in giving back this #GivingTuesday on December 3, 2019. Click here for more information!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Mrs. Diane Dwenger – Instructional Assistant
A little about me:
I have been working as an educator since student teaching in 1999. Before coming to NBE, I worked for 20 years at Mt. Vernon Schools, mostly as a Resource Assistant. I have one daughter who is married and three grandchildren, ages 10, 10 (not twins) and 3. I live in Fortville. I love to build and teach with Legos. I have many creations which I build that do not come from a kit. I think of a design and play around until I have something presentable. I have also worked at Ivy Tech in some capacity for the past 33 years. I am currently a Test Administrator, proctoring high stakes tests for over 25 different vendors.
What brings me joy:

Favorite food:
Hawaiian pizza from Pizza King
Favorite place to visit:
I enjoy taking my grandchildren to the Children's Museum, playing at the park or sitting in my beautiful backyard.
