Meet the Reading Team
Welcome to Montclair's Reading Corner! This special section of the newsletter will provide families with useful information all about literacy. First, we would like to introduce ourselves:
Karen Chierico has over 20 years in education and enjoys working with all grade levels. She also has a background in second language acquisition. Her goal for Montclair is to grow the love of literacy in each child.
Jenn Owlett has 15 years in education and enjoys working with students and teachers to make literacy fun and engaging. She has taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and 4th grade. Her goal for Montclair is to grow confident readers and writers.
Please feel free to contact either Mrs. Chierico (chierikb@pwcs.edu) or Mrs. Owlett (owlett@pwcs.edu) with any questions or concerns.
Gifted Resource and Talent Development Update
All students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade have quarterly lessons with Mrs. Doyle to nurture creative and critical thinking skills. During the 1st quarter 3rd graders also have a lesson. Our 1st quarter lessons are under way for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students.
1st graders are sharing ideas while developing critical and creative thinking skills with the lesson Which One Doesn’t Belong.
2nd graders all learned how to play the strategy-based game Q Bitz. This game develops visual spatial thinking, and every 2nd grade classroom now has this game in their room.
3rd graders are learning about verbal, number and picture analogies and are solving them in small groups.
Kindergarten lessons will begin during the 2nd quarter.
