From the Principal's Desk...
Dear MHS Parents and Guardians,
I hope you and your families are enjoying a restful day away from the ice, snow and freezing rain. It has certainly been a busy week at MHS!
We successfully transitioned to 2nd semester on Monday. Students have done a great job adjusting to their new schedules and making new connections in classrooms. Our teachers have seamlessly launched their new courses while tying up loose ends and finalizing grades from 1st Semester. Access to Quarter 2 report cards will be available on Aspen X2 after school on Monday, February 7th. Please be on the lookout for an email from Ms. Karidoyanes to inform you that the portal is opened. That email will also include instructions for how to access the report cards on the portal.
We also welcomed our new Assistant Principal, Mr. McGuire, back to Mansfield High School this week. As many of you know, Matt McGuire served as our Performing Arts Department Chair and Band Director prior to this school year. We are thrilled to have him back and serving in such an important role. Mr. McGuire will be the grade-level administrator for grades 10 and 12 this year.
On Thursday, we successfully kicked off the At-Home COVID Testing Program by distributing test kits to students in their homerooms. Thank you to our nurses and front office staff for assisting with the distribution process. Our next test kit distribution will take place in 2 weeks. Please see https://www.smore.com/hauzn for more details on the At-Home COVID Test Program. Families may opt-in to the program at any time.
As we look beyond this week, I want to share an important change to our calendar. During MCAS testing for both ELA (March) and Math (May), we will be running “reverse half days.” On these days, buses will run on the normal schedule in the AM to pick up test-takers only. Buses will then run again on a three-hour delay to pick up non-testing students for the 10:30AM “start” of school. The rest of the school day will follow a modified rotation (with lunch) and all students will be dismissed at normal time.
ELA MCAS Dates: March 22nd and 23rd
Math MCAS Dates: May 17th and 18th
*There WILL NOT be reverse half days for the Biology MCAS test in June*
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Tim Tichacek
Principal
Entrepreneurship Students Donate $1,300 This Semester!
The MHS Entrepreneurship students successfully ran a small business selling their handmade candles, BuzzBalm, magnet sets, and ornaments during the fall semester. Using their proceeds, they voted to support the Mansfield Animal Shelter with a donation of $1,100, while also making $200 of microloans to aspiring entrepreneurs in Burkina Faso, Colombia, Kenya, and Sierra Leone via Kiva.org. Since the inception of this small business project, students have donated over $13,300 to local charities and organizations, while also funding future semesters of Entrepreneurship students to complete the same project.
